Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

The Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation was getting a lot of love in the blogosphere recently  As I had just run out of my Rimmel 9 in 1 BB Cream, I was in the market for a new foundation so I thought I’d give it a go!  I’ve really liked Rimmel face bases in the past (except the much raved about Wake Me Up! which I’ve managed not to try yet).  The one thing I was really glad to hear was that the shade rage goes super light, which is music to this pale gal’s ears.

2014-02-21 11.57.55I got the shade 010 Light Porcelain and I believe this is the lightest shade in the range.  Being accustomed to grabbed the lightest shade, when I got home I wondered if this was almost too light.  But here are the bare skin and with foundation pics.

rimmelmatchNot much of a difference?  It’s quite a thin, sheer and I think because it matches my skin tone so well it just evens out the skin so slightly.  So what I have been doing is mixing it with a tiny amount of my Rimmel 25 Hour Lasting Finish foundation.  This was the lightest shade at the time I had bought this foundation, but now Rimmel have added the lighter shades to all their foundation ranges and you can buy the Rimmel 25 Hour Lasting Finish in 010 now!  The Rimmel 25 Hour Lasting Finish has a much thicker consistency and it just darkens the colour slightly.

2014-02-21 11.58.23On their own neither foundation really does it for me, the Lasting Finish looks too cakey and the Match Perfection is just too sheer.  Combined though, they have become my new favorite!

What your favorite Rimmel Foundation?  Have you tried Match Perfection yet?

February Empties

My bag o’ empties was in desperate need of emptying so here’s the contents of my trash for an undetermined period of time!

2014-02-21 12.14.37Got2B 2 Sexy Big Volume Hairspray-You’ve seen this before, my holy grail hairspray, smells delicious, already repurchased.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub-I really like this face wash, but am in search of something that doesn’t contain those plastic micro beads that are polluting our oceans.

Herbal Essence Smooth and Soft Shampoo-Nothing to write home about, I’m currently back to my favorite L’Oreal Elvive Triple Resist Shampoo.

Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer-After running out of this, I had a Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to start using, I much perfer the Illumintaing Concealer as it doesn’t crease and isn’t as heavy as the Lasting Perfection.

Rimmel 9 in 1 BB Cream-Love this, but it’s more of a summer product, will definitely repurchase for the warmer months, but currenlty loving my Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation.

Skin System Cotton Pads-Got these at Asda, cheap, cheerful, and they do the job!

Original Source Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel-I love the Original Source shower gels and Pink Grapefruit is a nice refreshing scent!

Soap and Glory Righteous Butter-My favorite body butter, on a new tub now!

L’Oreal Micellar Soloution-Already repurchased, might give the new Garnier version a go when I run out next as you get more in a bottle.

Vichy Idealia Serum-This was a lovely hydrating serum, tempted to purchase the full size.

Hand Maid-This is nice, but I prefer my Bath and Body Works scents!

Boots Botanics Hydrating Day Cream-This was a bit too light for my skin and I have repurchased the Skin Calming version.

Dove GoFresh Solid Deordorant-Love this deodorant, much prefer to the spray on.

Whew!  That was a long list!  All products linked if a previous review has been done!

Have you tried any of these?  What have you used up this month?

FOTD: Golden Cat Eye

I don’t think I’ve ever worn winged liner/cat eye liner before.  I think I may have attempted it once, but given up after not being able to match up both sides (is that even possible?).  After seeing Lisa Eldridge wearing smudgy winged liner with gold eyeshadow, I was inspired to give it another go.  My look didn’t turn out anything like her’s, but I’m still happy with it!

2013-10-29 11I paired it with an ELF lipstick in Voodoo, been loving this berry lipstick for the fall.  And the ELF lipsticks are such a good bargain as well!

2013-10-29 14.53.22Face:

Rimmel 9 in 1 BB Cream-My go to base right now, gives more coverage that my Olay Fresh Effects, but still looks natural.

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder-Would I use anything else?

Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer

Milani Baked Blush in Rose D’Oro-Definitely picking up a few more of these when I visit the states for Christmas!

Lips:

eos Lip Balm in Raspberry Pomegranate

ELF Lipstick in Voodoo

Eyes:

MUA Professional Eye Primer

MUA Undressed Palette-Light matte brown in crease and sparkly gold over the lid.  I used the black eyeshadow on the ELF angled eye liner brush to create a wing (used a business card to get it straight!).

Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Definer-Used this in the waterline and to go over the black eyeshadow

Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara-Been loving this mascara lately!

So there is my first attempt at cat eye/winged liner!

Do you rock the winged liner or are you like me and prefer to just smudge on some shadow?

P.S.  Just a sidenote because I think the links are kind of hard to see with this format, but I link the individual products if I’ve reviewed them previously so click on a product to get some more info!

FOTD: Two Tone

Here’s a nice simple look using just two eye shadows.  Today I have been busy doing adult things, registering with a new gp (should have done that 2 years ago when we moved, but nevermind), making an appointment with a mortgage advisor, running errands, etc.  And I needed a quick look that I could throw on without being too over the top, but still looking polished.

PicMonkey CollageOoo, moody downcast blogger photo, just gave this a try because of my hooded eyes you can’t really see any of my eyeshadow with open eyes.  It’s a bit annoying, you spend all that work carefully blending your eyeshadow, making it look nice, and then you can’t even really see it.  Poo.

2013-10-02 13.58.25Face:

Rimmel 9 In 1 BB Cream-This has a bit more coverage than my Olay Fresh Effects, but still gives a natural finish.

Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer-I just bought this (although you can’t really tell by the state of it) and absolutely love it for concealing under the eyes, nose, and chin.   Better than the Collection Long Lasting Concealer!

Rimmel Stay Matte Face Powder-Just repurchased this today, mine is looking a bit sad.

MUA Mosaic Bronzer-Used this to contour, great for pale gals as it is not super dark.

MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter-Gorgeous, love this!

17 Blusher in China Pink-Great blush, suits most skin tones!

Eyes:

2013-10-02 12.49.08Wet n’ Wild Comfort Zone Palette-The easy bit to this look, run the dark brown crease colour through the crease with a fluffy brush.  Then place the taupe browbone colour over the lid.

Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Big Eyes Mascara-Plenty on the upper lashes!

Lips:

eos Raspberry Pomegranate Lip Balm-I’ve been applying this at the beginning of my makeup routine so my lips are moisturised by the time the lipstick goes on.

Glossy Box Lipstick in Glossy Pink-A new fall favorite!

What’s your go to eye look on lazy days?  Anyone else getting extremely frustrated by the lack of natural light for blog photos?  Oh English winter time…

FOTD: Just Peachy Green

Oh man, see what I did there?  Technically today is the start of my weekend, I started a new job where I work 4 ten-hour days a week so I get a day off during the week.  Which is really awesome.  During the weekends, I like to experiment a bit more with my eyeshadow, don’t want to look too over the top in the work place.  I’ve been really wanting to try out the green shadow in my Wet n’ Wild Comfort Zone palette, but let’s be honest, green eyeshadow is a bit iffy sometimes.  So I gave it a go, paired with a nice peachy lip and it actually looks quite toned down and subtle I think.

2013-08-09 12.02.51Excuse the wet hair, I like to give it a break from the blow dryer during the weekend.

Here’s what’s on my face:

Face:

Rimmel 9 in 1 BB Cream-I’ve been reaching for my Olay Fresh Effect BB cream over this one for a while, but my skin hasn’t been as good and I need a bit more coverage.

MUA Blush Perfection Cream Blusher in Dolly- Love this cream blusher, it’s a nice peachy colour, applies really nicely.

Rimmel Stay Matte Poweder-A staple.

Eyes:

Wet n’ Wild Comfort Zone Palette-I used the shimmery beige (top right) over my lid, the green over the outer half and lining the lower lid, and the cream champagne colour (top left) as a highlight.2013-08-09 12.03.25

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Big Eyes Mascara-Top and lower lashes.

Lips:

MUA Lipstick in Nectar-Nice summery colour.

2013-08-09 13.32.44So there’s a nice simple and fresh look using minimal products!

Any plans for the weekend?  What are the most daring eyeshadow shades you’ve worn?

Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream

I received the Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream in my Sunkissed Voxbox, unfortunately I don’t think it is available in the UK at the moment.  I pretty much wore this BB cream the entire time I was in states.  It worked perfectly in the hot weather and it has risen to the top of my favorite BB cream list.  It has currently replaced my Rimmel 9 in 1 BB cream (I found that bb cream would settle in the tops of my eyebrows by the end of the day sometimes, not a good look).

2013-07-28 12.14.40The Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream contains SPF 15 and also claims to moisturize and brighten the skin.  It is described as a skin perfecting tinted moisturizer and I would definitely say it acts like more of tinted moisturizer than a bb cream.  It is very sheer and gives minimal to no coverage.  This is definitely a “good skin” type of product.  I’ve been quite lucky that my skin has been fairly clear during this hotter weather so this with a bit of concealer and I’m good to go.

olayfresheffectsBefore on the left, after on the right.  You can see here that it barely gives any coverage, just evens out the skin tone a bit.  I apply it with my fingers and it works into the skin quite easily.  It is very moisturizing without being greasy and feels light in hot, sticky weather.  It doesn’t get cakey or breakdown over the course of the day either which is a huge plus.

Have you tried Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream?  What is your go to makeup base in the hot weather months?

Hangover Makeup

We’ve all been there I’m sure.  You roll out of bed, with last night’s makeup 2 inches from its initial location, clothes balled up in the corner, maybe some mystery bruises (or is that just me?), and a banging headache.  But unfortunately you have a lunch date, a meeting, dinner with the in-laws, and you have to pull it together and make your sad self somewhat presentable.

So here are my tips and some main points to consider when a little too much fun the night before has left you a bit haggard and not your usual beautiful fresh-faced self.

Hydrate-This is the first step, I don’t know about you, but besides being horribly thirsty, my skin also gets quite dry after a night out.  So it’s important to replace all that moisture you’ve lost through one too many cocktails and sweating on the dance floor.  The morning after, I try to drink as much water as possible, taking a multi-vitamin with your breakfast is also a good idea.  Sometimes water just doesn’t taste nice though and in that case I recommend Lucozade Revive or Vitamin Water Revive, both contain B vitamins which will help your hangover.

So we’ve hydrated the inside, now onto the outside.  I double up with a serum in addition to my normal daily moisturizer and if you’re one of those girls who can’t be bothered to moisturise except on special occasion or after you shave your legs, take the time to slap on some body lotion.

2013-06-22 12.05.01

Conceal-Drinking usually leaves me a bit splotchy and red-faced, and those dark purple circles under my eyes are a dead giveaway of last nights indiscretions.  So my picks to perk up my complexion are a BB cream (I’m currently using the Rimmel BB cream and loving it), this helps in the hydrate department as well and the Collection 2000 Lasting Finish Concealer to hide those bags.  I also line my waterline with Rimmel Scandal Eyes in nude to conceal any redness.

2013-06-22 12.05.37

Brighten-I like to keep my makeup light, you’re not really going to help yourself packing on the black eyeliner and smokey shadows if you’re already looking a bit heavy-eyed and tired.  So I went with a light brown/neutral eye and some MeMeMe Cosmetics Beat the Blues highlighter.  I would also stay away from powders and try to go for cream products that won’t cling to dry skin.  But you also don’t want to look too shiny after layering on all that moisturizer so try blotting with some oil absorbing sheets instead of reaching for the face powder.

2013-06-22 12.05.53

And now you’re ready to face the world!  Well, maybe after one more cup of coffee.

What are your best hangover tips?  Or do you prefer to hide from the world until you’ve recovered?
