Top Products of 2013!

Jumping on the bandwagon with a round-up of my top products of 2013!  You’ve probably seen a lot of these mentioned on here before, obviously, as these are products I’ve used and abused throughout the year. (Product names will be linked to their full reviews if I’ve done them.)

2014-01-11 11.37.07Skincare

Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean-Having received this Christmas 2012 in my Soap and Glory giftset, this has become a firm favorite.  I like to apply this as a mask as it contains chemical exfoliants to brighten up my skin.

Soap and Glory Clean on Me-Another product from Christmas 2012 that I had loved throughout the year.  This shower gel is creamy and moisturising and it smells absolutely delicious!

L’Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution-This is my 3rd or 4th bottle of the stuff, it dissolves aways all traces of makeup, doesn’t dry out the skin, and with a £3 price tag, can’t be beat!

Boots Botanics Skin Calming Day Cream SPF 15-I finally found my ultimate face moisturiser this year and this is it.  It’s rich enough for my dry skin and the SPF is an added bonus, another product I have repurchased and will continue to do so.

2014-01-11 11.38.19Haircare

V05 Give Me Texture Dry Texturising Spray-This spray is amazing for adding body to fine, limp hair.  It’s perfect to add a bit of grit and texture to freshly washed hair as well.  The poor man’s Oribe Texturising spray 🙂

got2be 2 Sexy Volumizing Hairspray-My HG hairspray, it smells delicious, can be brushed out, gives a good amount of volume.

2014-01-11 11.40.03Makeup

Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer-I believe this concealer is way better than the old Collection concealer that is raved about by everyone and their dog.  It’s not as cakey and the salmon-y colour is perfect for covering up dark circles.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains-I love these balm stains, they are long-lasting and don’t dry out your lips.  Rendezvous was a favorite for summer and Honey is just a good all-rounder, perfect for work.

Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara-Again, another Soap and Glory product, but this mascara is awesome.  It volumizes and lengthens, my new go to.

MUA Undress Me Too Palette-As you can see by its sorry state, this is a well-loved palette, perfect for everyday neutral looks.

Milani Baked Blushes-I have acquired two of these now, in Luminoso and Rose D’Oro.  These blushes are perfection as far as lasting power and pigmentation.

eos Lip Balms-I am never without one of these little babies, I apply in the morning before putting on lipstick.  And I also keep one in my handbag for dry lip emergencies.

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows-I’ve managed to acquire this product in Amber Rush and Bronzed Taupe.  They are perfect single sweep eyeshadows and they last all day without creasing.  The quality is amazing for drugstore eyeshadows.

2014-01-11 11.40.53

L’Oreal Colour Riche Confetti Topcoat-It took me ages to get my hands on this and it was so worth it.  This can make any nail colour just look that much more interesting with minimal effort. Love.

Narciso Rodriguez for Her-I got a sample of this perfume in a Glossybox ages ago and fell in love.  It’s sophisticated and musky, very unique, an all time favorite, but one that is saved for special occasions.

Have you tried any of these products?  What items made it on your favorites list for 2013?

Transitioning from Summer to Fall

And so it seems that fall is finally here (yes, I say fall, I may live in England, but I am still American and autumn sounds a bit too formal for my liking)!  Like most people it seems, fall is my favorite season, it is the season of my birthday, wedding anniversary, facilitates my unhealthy obsession with knitwear (as my mister affectionately call my grandma clothes), slipper socks, cinnamon scented candles, red holiday Starbucks cups, and not being called a weirdo because I’m huddled under a fleece blanket every evening despite a rare UK heat wave (I just like being cozy year round, ok?).  The list goes on and on.

But what about makeup?  Like everything else in my daily life that has also had some changes to accommodate the change in the seasons.2013-09-13 11.50.47

Nail Polish-Goodbye bright pinks, yellows even and pastels, hello Barry M Dusky Mauve, forest greens and deep burgundy.  Fall is all about jewel tones and metallics on the nails for me.

2013-09-13 11.51.39Lipstick-My bright orange Revlon Just Bitten Longest Name Ever Balm Stain in Rendezvous will be going into hibernation while I dig out mauves, deeper reds, and dusky pinks for the winter months.

2013-09-13 11.52.41Foundation-I love a good BB cream, but while hot summer months call for lighter coverage and maybe something a bit dewy, when cold weather hits it’s nice to have the extra coverage in a formula that a but more matte.

2013-09-13 11.54.18Blusher-Like with lipstick, in fall and winter I tend to go with a more subdued color, bye-bye to bright pinks and corals, and bringing in soft pinks and rose.

2013-09-13 11.56.35Highlighters-Warmer months require a nice golden glow to complement tanned skin, but in the chillier weather, I like something a bit more on the slightly frosty pink side.

One thing I don’t really change in accordance with the seasons is eyeshadow, I’m pretty much a neutrals girl year round.

How has your makeup changed now that the temperatures dropped?  How many knit cardigans do you think is acceptable for one person?

Autumn Lipsticks from 17 Cosmetics

On one of my meanders over to Boots during my lunch break at work (funny how those happen so often), I decided to pick up some fall lip colours.  I have really been favoring orangey corals for the summer, pretty much wore Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous about every day (which I really need to pick up some more of, love that product!).  I was looking to buy on the cheap and so I headed over to the 17 stand where there was a 3 for 2 deal going on.

I ended up getting two 17 Lasting Fix lipsticks, one in Heatherberry (left), purple shimmery colour and one in Mulled Wine (right) a deep mauvey red.  (Apologies for the Mulled Wine pic, for some reason my camera refused to focus, I even tried it 2 different days so there ya go!).  These lipsticks retail for £4.29 and they really do have great lasting power!

The formula is creamy and non-drying and I would say they last about 4-6 hours.  The packaging is nice enough, they are sturdy enough to throw around in your handbag, unlike the MUA lipsticks which I always find missing their lids.  The one issue I have with the 17 Lasting Fix lipsticks is the shape of the bullet, it’s so wide and flat that it makes precision application pretty much impossible.

What shades of lipsticks are you wearing for the autumn?  Have you tried 17 Lasting Fix lipsticks?

Product Review: Korres Lipgloss

I was lucky enough to win these beautiful Korres Lip Glosses from a giveaway on Make Up Monster (go check her out if you don’t read her blog already, she does some great posts!).  I was especially excited to receive these lipglosses as these are the exact colours I would choose for myself from the range.  Number 44 Orange is a vibrant orange with shimmer (I love to layer this over my Kissable Balm Stain in Rendevous) and Number 11 Light Pink which is a peachy bubble gum pink.

These glosses are sheer, but do provide some colour to the lips.  They  also contain cherry oil to moisturize your lips, but which also gives the gloss a pleasant cherry taste.  I don’t find them to be sticky at all, just a very nice moisturizing gloss.

I would definitely recommend these to anyone who is a fan of lipglosses, not too sticky and just a nice sheer wash of colour!
Have you tried any Korres products before?

The Crap Spot: Lipcote

Now, I haven’t done a Crap Spot in a while, mostly because I had not found a product that appalled me so that I needed to deem it firmly placed in said Crap Spot.  After last month’s train wreck of a Glossybox, I have a new product to take its seat in the Hall of Shame.  And that would be none other than what is considered by some to be a cult classic, Lipcote.

Now Lipcote claims to be “the secret to smudge, feather, fade and kiss proof lip colour that lasts”.  And Lipcote does in fact do all of those things, but that is not my issue with it.  Lipcote definitely does what it says on the tin, but at what price?

Upon initial use, I found Lipcote to sting my lips, nothing too terrible, but still.  Also, as soon as it dried over my lipstick, my lips felt horribly dry, like they needed to be smothered in lip balm, which would kind of defeat the purpose of not budging your lipstick.  There is also a disgusting chemical taste that I could taste every time I drank or ate something after using Lipcote.  I also found I had to be careful not to rub my lips together because my lipstick would kind of flake off.

So yes, not a pleasant experience at all.  Some of you may say, “Well, what about special occasions, put up with a bit of tingling, dry, chemical lips so your lipstick can look fabulous all evening?”  To that I say look to the current makeup shelves, there are a ton of long-lasting lip products out there that don’t dry out your lips or taste bad.  Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains for instance, I would rather shell out for a few of those than use this disgusting product.  It’s just not worth it.

Have you used Lipcote before?  Do you think it’s worthy of The Crap Spot or are you a fan?

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

Usually I manage to stay above blogger hyped products, wasn’t impressed with Lip Butters, I don’t wash my face with Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, my cheapo ELF nail polish suits me just fine rather than paying out for Essie, but when I saw the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, I knew I had to get my hands on them.
The packaging is what really appeals to me, which I know shouldn’t be a deciding factor, but how can you resist applying your lip product with what looks like a gigantic Crayola?  Also the balm stain formula appealed to me as well, I am not a fan of the marker style lip stains.  I just think they don’t sit on the lips very well.  They always seem to feather and just look odd in general.

A bit slow to the scene, but eventually I made my way to Boots and swatched until I decided upon Rendezvous.

Rendezvous is an orangey pink, it looks a little scary in the tube, but it comes out a bit more muted on the lips.  I was a little disappointed with the colour pay off as I was hoping for it to be more orange.  The Kissable Balm Stains do have a slight minty scent, but I only notice it upon application and then it seems to disappear.  The stains are slightly moisturizing, but being a stain, if your lips are dry, it will cling to the flakey bits.  The lasting power is quite impressive, for me it last through the work day including lunch!

I don’t know if they are still on offer at Boots, but when I purchased Rendezvous, it was £2 off the normal price of £7.99.
I am definitely planning on picking up more of these little gems!

Have you tried the Kissable Balm Stains?  What’s your favorite shade?

Buy Me! First Edition

On the #bbloggers chat tonight, I finally got an answer to a question I have been dying to know the answer to:  How do all you lovely beauty bloggers make your favorites/wants montages?  Now I am not that technologically skilled in any way, shape or form so I was looking for something that was quite user friendly.

And #bbloggers being the plentiful font of knowledge that it is, lead me to Picmonkey!  Their tagline being “Photo Editing Made of Win!”.  Which I wholeheartedly agree with.  So without further ado, I bring you the first edition of Buy Me! (aka things I wish I had, but I’m too skint to purchase at the moment).

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains-Now I managed to not be that phased by the lip butters craze, but I really want to pick a couple of these jumbo lip crayons up.  They just look fun and the color pay off is much more up my alley than the sheer lip butters.

Heart and Arrow Necklace-I found this necklace while browsing Pinterest one day and I just think it’s adorable.

ELF Eyebrow Kit-I keep meaning to pick this up, but it always seems to be out of stock every time I make an ELF order!

Hope you enjoyed my first Buy Me! post, I can see myself spending quite a bit of time on Picmonkey so excited to add a new element to my blog with their editing program.

What is your favorite, easy to use photo editing program?
