Weekend Check In #2

Drinking: Water, lots of water.  We got a Brita Filter recently and it has really helped encourage me to stay hydrated!

Health:  First off, absolutely loving my Fitbit Charge HR, you can read my review here.  I have also started doing Lucy Wyndham-Read’s 2016 HIIT Workout before my daily dose of Yoga Camp with Adrienne to get my heart going!

Wearing:  Lots of Primark workout gear!  I would recommend this for home practice as some of their leggings are a bit see through, but who cares if your in your own home?  It’s cheap and does the trick so I’m not constantly doing laundry.

Reading:  I have been continuing the Flavia de Luce series, by Alan Bradley.  This series has crime, murder most foul, chemistry, dark humour and an 11 old heroine who is sometimes too smart for her own good!

Makeup:  Not makeup per se, but skincare, I have rediscovered my once beloved Peaches and Clean which is kicking my winter skin back into shape.

Playing:  This video from my holiday in Oz over and over…

Top Products of 2013!

Jumping on the bandwagon with a round-up of my top products of 2013!  You’ve probably seen a lot of these mentioned on here before, obviously, as these are products I’ve used and abused throughout the year. (Product names will be linked to their full reviews if I’ve done them.)

2014-01-11 11.37.07Skincare

Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean-Having received this Christmas 2012 in my Soap and Glory giftset, this has become a firm favorite.  I like to apply this as a mask as it contains chemical exfoliants to brighten up my skin.

Soap and Glory Clean on Me-Another product from Christmas 2012 that I had loved throughout the year.  This shower gel is creamy and moisturising and it smells absolutely delicious!

L’Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution-This is my 3rd or 4th bottle of the stuff, it dissolves aways all traces of makeup, doesn’t dry out the skin, and with a £3 price tag, can’t be beat!

Boots Botanics Skin Calming Day Cream SPF 15-I finally found my ultimate face moisturiser this year and this is it.  It’s rich enough for my dry skin and the SPF is an added bonus, another product I have repurchased and will continue to do so.

2014-01-11 11.38.19Haircare

V05 Give Me Texture Dry Texturising Spray-This spray is amazing for adding body to fine, limp hair.  It’s perfect to add a bit of grit and texture to freshly washed hair as well.  The poor man’s Oribe Texturising spray 🙂

got2be 2 Sexy Volumizing Hairspray-My HG hairspray, it smells delicious, can be brushed out, gives a good amount of volume.

2014-01-11 11.40.03Makeup

Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer-I believe this concealer is way better than the old Collection concealer that is raved about by everyone and their dog.  It’s not as cakey and the salmon-y colour is perfect for covering up dark circles.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains-I love these balm stains, they are long-lasting and don’t dry out your lips.  Rendezvous was a favorite for summer and Honey is just a good all-rounder, perfect for work.

Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara-Again, another Soap and Glory product, but this mascara is awesome.  It volumizes and lengthens, my new go to.

MUA Undress Me Too Palette-As you can see by its sorry state, this is a well-loved palette, perfect for everyday neutral looks.

Milani Baked Blushes-I have acquired two of these now, in Luminoso and Rose D’Oro.  These blushes are perfection as far as lasting power and pigmentation.

eos Lip Balms-I am never without one of these little babies, I apply in the morning before putting on lipstick.  And I also keep one in my handbag for dry lip emergencies.

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows-I’ve managed to acquire this product in Amber Rush and Bronzed Taupe.  They are perfect single sweep eyeshadows and they last all day without creasing.  The quality is amazing for drugstore eyeshadows.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Confetti Topcoat-It took me ages to get my hands on this and it was so worth it.  This can make any nail colour just look that much more interesting with minimal effort. Love.

Narciso Rodriguez for Her-I got a sample of this perfume in a Glossybox ages ago and fell in love.  It’s sophisticated and musky, very unique, an all time favorite, but one that is saved for special occasions.

Have you tried any of these products?  What items made it on your favorites list for 2013?

The Deal of the Festive Season!

Have you heard?  The Soap and Glory lover’s dream deal is on Friday!  This year it features the gorgeous Yule Monty Gift Set will be reduced from £60 to £27 starting this Friday for one week!

I bought the Soap and Glory Gift Set last year, the Best of Them All Gift and I intend on purchasing the Yule Monty Gift Set this year if I can get my hands on it.  I remember last year that it wasn’t at all difficult to get a gift set and my Boots seemed to have a surplus and they were sitting on the shelves for quite some time.  But the year before, the gift set was nowhere to be found after the first few days.  So I’m wondering if Soap and Glory will make it a bit more exclusive after last year?

The Yule Monty Gift Set contains:

-Sugarcrush Body Wash

The Righteous Butter

Heel Genius Foot Mask

Hand Food

Peaches and Clean

Thick and Fast Mascara

-Scrub of Your Life Body Buffer

-Butter Yourself Body Lotion

-Sexy Mother Pucker in Pink Out Loud

I am really excited for all the products in the gift set, except for maybe Heel Genius as I am still working my way through my tube from last year.  Some stand outs are the Sugarcrush Body Wash (delicious scent and lasts ages!), Peaches and Clean (an amazing cleanser), and the Thick and Fast Mascara (one of my holy grail mascaras).  Also I always need Hand Food, can’t get enough of that stuff!

Will you be snapping up this giftset?  Are you going to be first in line Friday or just see if there’s some hanging around when you can find the time?

My Skin Care Routine

Now that I have a somewhat established skin care routine that is a little more involved than my wash my face with whatever is on offer at Superdrug in the morning and makeup wipes at night, I’d thought I’d share with you!

2013-03-02 14.32.12Morning:

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub-I use this every morning in the shower, it smells amazing and gently exfoliates.  Gentle enough to use every day and doesn’t dry my skin out.

Monu Micro Exfoliant-I use this about twice a week to give my skin a more heavy-duty exfoliating.  The particles in this luxurious cream cleanser polish your skin leaving it looking renewed and fresh.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream-Dab a bit of this under my eyes every morning, not sue if it does anything, but I hope it will prevent wrinkles!

Docteur Renaud Raspberry Soft Cream-First off, this face cream smells good enough to eat, seriously.  It is a thick moisturizer that sinks in quickly without leaving your skin greasy, absolutely love this!

2013-03-02 14.31.30Evening:

Peaches and Clean-I use almost every night with a face cloth to wash my face and remove my makeup.

Facewipes-These are my backup if I am too tired to do a proper cleanse, usually saved for the weekend.

Boots Botanics Cleansing Toner-I swipe this over my face after I cleanse and before I moisturize to get off any remaining dirt or makeup.

Monu Night Renewal Complex-My night cream of choice at the moment.

What does your skin care routine consist?  More or fewer steps than mine, hehe?

Soap and Glory Best of All: Part Two

And another edition of my Soap and Glory Best of All review (check out part one here)!  Today’s post features the Righteous Butter, Heel Genius, and Peaches and Clean.  Three products that are helping me keep my skin in tip-top state during the colder winter months!

2013-02-05 15.34.45The Righteous Butter is a thick and luxurious body butter scented with the famous Soap and Glory “Pink” scent.  This is perfect for slathering on after a soak in the tub or on freshly shaven legs.  It sinks in quickly without leaving you greasy, you do need a few minutes to “air dry” before trying to slip into those skinny jeans though!

2013-02-05 15.35.07Heel Genius, while not the most exciting product (does anyone get excited about a foot lotion), has become part of my nightly ritual to get my poor sad dry feet back into a condition I see fit for others to view.  This is a light blue, minty lotion that is perfect for slathering on and then covering with some fuzzy socks.  Leave on overnight and your feet will feel amazing!  The minty tingle is great for tired feet that have been stomping around in heels at the office all day.

And last, but certainly not least, Peaches and Clean.  This product has probably changed my beauty routine the most as I have ditched my much beloved face wipes in favor of using this cleanser with a facecloth to remove my makeup every night.  It leaves your skin feeling clean, but not dried out.  I usually use a separate eye makeup remover for stubborn mascara, but Peaches and Clean will take off everything else!

Have you tried any of these products from Soap and Glory?  Have any made it into your beauty routine?

New Year 2013 Resolutions

I am usually not one for making New Year resolutions, but there are a few things I’d like to accomplish/change this year and I thought a few reasonable and achievable resolutions couldn’t hurt.

1.  Cleanse properly in the evening.  Right now my nightly cleansing routine consists of me using 2-4 cotton pads of eye makeup remover depending on the smokiness/amount of eyeliner caked on my face (skip this step if it’s not the weekend and I am just removing work makeup), a scrubbing with a face wipe, and perhaps a swipe of toner on another cotton pad.

This routine not only does not actually remove all my makeup, it creates a ridiculous amount of waste.  Since purchasing the Best of All Soap and Glory set, Peaches and Clean and a face cloth will be my new night-time routine.  I was a bit hesitant to use a cleanser in the evening because I thought it would take too much time (I usually have to rouse myself from the sofa and drag myself into the bathroom half asleep to complete my night-time routine).  I have found it is actually just as fast, if not quicker than my old routine.  I will make this resolution 5/7 days of the week though just to cover those occasional drunken stumbles into the flat on the weekends.

2.  Do Zumba on the X Box twice a week.  I am not concerned about losing weight and all that jazz, this is mainly to keep me feeling good and healthy.  I always feel better after forcing myself to do a quick 20 minute Zumba session after work and because my job is rather sedentary, it’s important for me to have some physical activity to keep myself in shape.

3.  Save a good chunk of money towards a mortgage deposit.  The mister and I are nearing a stage in our life where in a few year’s time, we’d like to have some kids, and that also goes along with a house to raise them in.  We’ve already set up some different high interest savings accounts to start saving regularly.  Doing grown up stuff like this makes me a little depressed, but is necessary.

And there they are!  My 3 little New Year’s resolutions!  Not too terribly intimidating or off-putting, which I think is important when making such things.

Have you made any New Year’s Resolutions?  Or do you think they’re a waste of time?
