February Empties

My bag o’ empties was in desperate need of emptying so here’s the contents of my trash for an undetermined period of time!

2014-02-21 12.14.37Got2B 2 Sexy Big Volume Hairspray-You’ve seen this before, my holy grail hairspray, smells delicious, already repurchased.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub-I really like this face wash, but am in search of something that doesn’t contain those plastic micro beads that are polluting our oceans.

Herbal Essence Smooth and Soft Shampoo-Nothing to write home about, I’m currently back to my favorite L’Oreal Elvive Triple Resist Shampoo.

Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer-After running out of this, I had a Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to start using, I much perfer the Illumintaing Concealer as it doesn’t crease and isn’t as heavy as the Lasting Perfection.

Rimmel 9 in 1 BB Cream-Love this, but it’s more of a summer product, will definitely repurchase for the warmer months, but currenlty loving my Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation.

Skin System Cotton Pads-Got these at Asda, cheap, cheerful, and they do the job!

Original Source Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel-I love the Original Source shower gels and Pink Grapefruit is a nice refreshing scent!

Soap and Glory Righteous Butter-My favorite body butter, on a new tub now!

L’Oreal Micellar Soloution-Already repurchased, might give the new Garnier version a go when I run out next as you get more in a bottle.

Vichy Idealia Serum-This was a lovely hydrating serum, tempted to purchase the full size.

Hand Maid-This is nice, but I prefer my Bath and Body Works scents!

Boots Botanics Hydrating Day Cream-This was a bit too light for my skin and I have repurchased the Skin Calming version.

Dove GoFresh Solid Deordorant-Love this deodorant, much prefer to the spray on.

Whew!  That was a long list!  All products linked if a previous review has been done!

Have you tried any of these?  What have you used up this month?

Product Review: Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Daily Scrub

I am a big fan of Neutrogena’s Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub, so when the Visibly Clear range was on offer for 2 for 1, I decided to branch out and try the Pore & Shine version in the range.

2013-08-09 12.04.34This is a creamy face wash with green micro beads that gently exfoliate.  It claims to mattify and help minimize the appearance of pores.  I don’t really have any issues with my pores, but my skin can get oily.  I did really like this cleanser, it did make a difference in the oiliness of my skin.  The creamy formula helps control oil without drying out your skin.  So normally, I would recommend this scrub.

But then I read this article recently on how micro beads are affecting the environment.  Those lovely little beads that are so good at gently exfoliating your skin are getting washed down the shower drain and end up in our oceans.

2013-08-09 12.04.54You can see on the ingredients list that polyethylene is included, that means the microbeads are plastic.  So for now, I will be foregoing my Neutrogena scrubs in favor of using a creamy cleanser with a flannel and a chemical exfoliating toner.  I’m tempted to go back to my old favorite of St. Ives Apricot Scrub, but everyone seems to be up in arms about the harshness of the apricot kernels.

Do any of  your favorite cleansers contain microbeads?  Will you give them up to help the environment?

August Empties

My empties bag has gotten quite full and was in dire need of an emptying out.  Disclaimer as usual, obviously I haven’t used all these products in August, this is what I’ve used up since my last empties post, which was May, I believe.

2013-08-09 12.01.02Look at them all!  It feels so nice to be able to pitch these all in the recycling bin!  I’ll try to go in a somewhat clockwise fashion here.

Tresemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner-I really liked this pair, they did start to dry out my hair though near the end of the bottles (they lasted over a month).  But keratin is clarifying so I did expect that, I would purchase them again, they made my hair feel really strong.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream-I got this in a Glossybox and I really liked it, definitely something I would repurchase.  Which I should actually do as I don’t have an eye cream at the moment.

Superdrug Heat Defence Spray-I didn’t finish this, but I am chucking it out because I discovered L’Oreal Elnet Heat Protect Spray which is soooo much better and actually makes my hair look better.  I realized after using the Superdrug Spray for a while that it is actually really sticky, so definitely not something to buy.

Pretty Quik Instant Nail Polish Remover-The cheap version of the Bourjois brand, I really like this, but I used it to remove the dark green Barry M Gelly polish and that completely ruined it.  It turned the tips of my nails green every time I used it after that which was kind of a bummer.

Boots Botanics Skin Calming Day Cream SPF 15-I really liked this moisturiser and thought I was repurchasing it, but grabbed the All Bright one instead.  I definitely like the Calming version better as it is richer and more nourishing.

Origins Ginzing Eye Cream-Nice little sample, does give your skin a tingly feeling.  Not enough to see how effective it is though.

17 BB Cream-Love this bb cream, but I have so many on the go at the moment, I won’t be repurchasing.

John Frieda Sheer Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner-I love John Frieda and this was no exception.

L’Oreal Elvive Triple Resist Shampoo-This sample lathered up so well and impressed me so much I went out and bought a set of the full size products, review to come.

V05 Give Me Texture Dry Texturising Spray-Love, love and already repurchased.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Scrub-Another staple that I have repurchased.

Soap and Glory Hand Food-I always need one of these on hand, right now I am using my full size from the Best of All gift set.

Rituals Magice Touch Hand Cream-I got this in a Glossybox, I like the Rituals brand and this was a really nice hand cream.

Whew!  If you got through all that you deserve a pat on the back.  I am just exhausted from typing this all out and will now be motivated to do these a bit more frequently before the empties (trash) start piling up!

Have you tried any of these products out?

My Skin Care Routine

Now that I have a somewhat established skin care routine that is a little more involved than my wash my face with whatever is on offer at Superdrug in the morning and makeup wipes at night, I’d thought I’d share with you!

2013-03-02 14.32.12Morning:

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub-I use this every morning in the shower, it smells amazing and gently exfoliates.  Gentle enough to use every day and doesn’t dry my skin out.

Monu Micro Exfoliant-I use this about twice a week to give my skin a more heavy-duty exfoliating.  The particles in this luxurious cream cleanser polish your skin leaving it looking renewed and fresh.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream-Dab a bit of this under my eyes every morning, not sue if it does anything, but I hope it will prevent wrinkles!

Docteur Renaud Raspberry Soft Cream-First off, this face cream smells good enough to eat, seriously.  It is a thick moisturizer that sinks in quickly without leaving your skin greasy, absolutely love this!

2013-03-02 14.31.30Evening:

Peaches and Clean-I use almost every night with a face cloth to wash my face and remove my makeup.

Facewipes-These are my backup if I am too tired to do a proper cleanse, usually saved for the weekend.

Boots Botanics Cleansing Toner-I swipe this over my face after I cleanse and before I moisturize to get off any remaining dirt or makeup.

Monu Night Renewal Complex-My night cream of choice at the moment.

What does your skin care routine consist?  More or fewer steps than mine, hehe?

January Empties

Again, disclaimer to start off with:  I did not use up all these empties in the month of January, in fact these are from November onward from where I did my last empties post found here.  So without further ado, here’s my trash!

emptiesClean and Clear Morning Energy-This is a nice cleanser that I use in the shower every morning.  It contains bursting beads that gently exfoliate without being too harsh.  This isn’t a definite repurchase for me as I prefer the Neutrogena Visibly Clean Grapefruit scrub.

DKNY Be Delicious-I love this perfume, it’s fresh and fruity and I prefer it to the Red Delicious.  I will not be repurchasing for a while though as I was spoiled with perfumes at Christmas this year and can’t justify buying more.

John Frieda Full Repair Shampoo and Conditioner-This is a nice shampoo and conditioner set, it moisturizes your hair without weighing it down and I have already repurchased.  The only thing I find strange about this line is that the conditioner is actually thicker and feels more moisturizing than the deep repair hair masque in the line.  So skip on the masque, get the conditioner instead!

Got2Be Collagen Lift Hairspray-This is my Holy Grail hairspray.  It smells amazing which is odd for hairspray and gives enough volume/hold without making your hair crispy or sticky.  Definite repurchase.

Wilko’s Fruity Shower Smoothie/Cream-Love these, they are cheap and cheerful and are a bathroom staple.  They are always 2 for £1.50 at Wilko’s, we use their hand soap as well, nothing bad to say about it.

Body Shop Mango Shower Gel-This was a nice shower gel, nothing too exciting.  I got it in one of their discounted gift sets last year after Christmas.  I did get another discounted scent this year in coconut!  Probably wouldn’t pay full price for this product.

ELF Blush/Bronzer Brush-This has been the only ELF brush I have purchased that has been absolute crap, I got the Real Techniques Blush Brush recently so felt it was time to throw this piece of crap out.  It has coarse bristles, barely picks up any product, shed, and falls apart.  Bad, bad, bad.

Montagne Jeunesse Prickly Pear Peel-Like most Montagne Jeunesse face masks, this smelled absolutely amazing.  It did make my skin feel a lot better, I love peel off masks, I just imagine it taking all the junk off my face when I pull it off.  Would repurchase.

And there are my empties!

Have you tried any of these products lately?  Thoughts?

Product Review: Clean and Clear Morning Energy

I stopped into Superdrug on one of my lunchbreaks before I went on holiday, looking for a new face cleanser.  My beloved Neutrogena Visibly Clear Daily Grapefruit Scrub had run out and I wanted to try something new.  Superdrug was having a sale on some of the Clean and Clear products and the Clean and Clear Morning Energy Skin Brightening Daily Facial Scrub caught my eye.  I don’t give much credit to products that claim to be skin brightening, I have used the Dove skin brightening body washes before and a few other products and don’t think they actually do much in the way of “brightening” your skin.

But I like Clean and Clear products and it was scrubby and smelled nice so I got it.  And to be honest, I was really impressed the first time I used it.  It is very refreshing, it leaves your face feeling cool and tingly after you use it.  It contains the bursting beads that are in some of the other Clean and Clear morning scrubs, releasing a zingy papaya and lemon scent.  It is exfoliating, but still gentle.

I was a little worried when I first used it because as you can see from the photo, there are little flecks of shimmer in the scrub.  These wash away and the shower though and don’t cling to your skin making you look like a disco ball when you get out.  Overall, I am really happy with this face cleanser and will probably repurchase.  It was especially nice to use on holiday, after coming in with a hot face full of salt, sand and suncream, this scrub made me feel really refreshed and clean.

Have you tried any Clean and Clear products?  What do you think of products claiming to be skin brightening?

Bad Beauty Habits TAG!

Just thought I’d do a fun and easy tag post for Friday night (taken from Knickers and Nailpolish here!).  Bad beauty habits, we all are guilty of them, and here are mine:

-Not drinking enough water.  I used to be really good about this during my uni days, I always had a full Nalgene by my side.  Then came the articles about Nalgenes leeching cancer causing chemicals into your water and so I threw that out quite quickly and then moved on to the Sigg bottle, but some how that just became too much of a bother to carry around.  During the work day, I start my morning off with a coffee and drink green tea through the day.  At home I drink more tea or have a beer or glass of wine with dinner depending on how bad my day was.  I know I don’t drink enough water because I wake up incredibly thirsty and dehydrated in the morning.  So really making a concentrated effort to drink more water because it can really affect your appearance!

-Not using a facial exfoliater, I used to use St. Ives Apricot scrub along with a separate facial cleanser.  I probably exfoliated too often as I used it everyday, but now I just use  Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit scrub.  Although, this claims to be a scrub it doesn’t give my face a thorough exfoliation and I really should be using something a bit harsher once a week to really get my skin glowing.

-Washing dishes and scrubbing the bathroom with bare hands.  This is a bad one, but a habit I can’t/won’t break unfortunately.  Cleaners and washing up liquid are terrible for your skin and your hands will especially show the effects from using these harsh cleaners.  I cannot stand the feel of rubber gloves though and opt to slather my hands in body butter after doing these household chores.

-Not using an eye cream/night cream.  I’ve always just used a moisturizer in the morning, once I’d gotten out of the shower.  At night, I wipe off my makeup using a makeup removing wipe and leave it at that.  But with the inclusion of things like the Bionova Eye Wrinkle treatment in the December Glossybox and the Clarins Night Cream, I have been toying with the idea of purchasing these extra creams.  I am 25 now, but I feel like it’s too soon for me to worry about anti-aging products, even though it’s probably about time for me to start worrying about such things.  Just a sad realization I am avoiding perhaps…

What are some of your bad beauty habits that you just can’t kick?
