November Empties

Disclaimer to start off with: I haven’t used up all these products in November (of course not, as we’re only 4 days in), but the empties bag had reached an acceptably full leve so here we are again!  Check out my last empties post from August if you haven’t seen it already.

Superdrug Dry Shampoo in Spirit of the Carnival-I love the Superdrug Dry Shampoos, but I probably wouldn’t repurchase this scent, a bit too coconutty, I preferred the citrusy Head in the Clouds.

Dove GoFresh Deodorant in Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena-I like this deodorant, but I’ve actually switched to their roll on recently because I found it works better.

Body Shop Mango Body Butter-I love the Body Shop Body Butters, they are perfect for heavy-duty winter moisturizing, will definitely repurchase.

Vichy Idealia Day Care Cream-I received this in my September Glossybox and I absolutely loved it, it sunk in easily, smelled lovely and did an amazing job at keeping my skin moisturized, will repurchase.

FAB Body Moisturizer-Another Glossybox sample, I didn’t really like this moisturizer because the smell wasn’t very nice even though it was unscented.  It did work a treat on sunburn though and that’s how I ended up finally using it up.

Boots Cucumber Cleansing Wipes-Nice face wipes, they get the job done.

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder-I have  found a better alternative for my beloved face powder in Rimmel Stay Matte.

Monu Professional Skincare Moisture Rich Collagen Cream-I just love my Glossybox moisturizers and Glossybox actually introduced me to the brand Monu, I love all their skin care products!

And there’s the contents of my rubbish bin this month, what products have you used up recently?

Beauty Bargain Alert: Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

Rimmel Stay Matte powder has been raved and talked about quite a bit in the beauty community.  I, however, have been a die-hard Maybelline Dream Matte Powder girl ever since Missglamorrazzi talked about using it in one of her Youtube videos.  But recently after running out of my beloved Dream Matte, I decided to give Rimmel a try.  It is about £3 cheaper after all!

So how does it measure up?

-Rimmel Stay Matte Powder is much longer lasting than the Dream Matte Powder, while I needed to touch up at work with Dream Matte, the Rimmel Powder lasts all day.

-Rimmel Stay Matte Powder also has better coverage than the Maybelline Dream Matte, but you also have to be careful not to apply too much of the Rimmel Stay Matte or it can look cakey.

-Price wise, Rimmel wins at £3.99 compared to Maybelline at £7.19.

-My one negative though is the packaging of the Rimmel Stay Matte powder feels so flimsy and like it could crack open any minute.  I’m afraid to put it in my handbag because I think it would get battered.  I much prefer the clam shell style Maybelline packaging, it feels a lot sturdier.

Although packaging is an issue, I think I am a convert.  The quality and performance of the Stay Matte powder make it such a bargain!  I don’t miss my Maybelline Dream Matte the least bit so I think when I repurchase it will be Rimmel all the way!

Have you used Rimmel Stay Matte powder?  What is your holy grail face powder?

What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag?

As some of you may or may not know, I have just returned from a “glamping” holiday in Cornwall for my birthday.  You can read about it here on my lifestyle blog if you are curious as to what glamping entails, we had an amazing time!  Anyway, this is what I brought with me makeup wise.  It is quite minimal, but what I deemed necessary for the type of holiday I was on (don’t really need to get too tarted up for exploring the beaches or having dinner in a pub).

The makeup bag itself is super old and I bought it from ELF years ago, I had a look and they don’t even offer the make anymore (the zip is a bit corroded, really need to look into getting a new one!).

Face Products:

17 BB Cream-Love this BB cream and it contains SPF so perfect for being outdoors!

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer-Everyone’s holy grail concealer, worked a treat for covering up those dark circles after nights of drinking too much wine while stargazing.

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder-My favorite face powder, great for setting makeup and keeping your skin matte.

MUA Mosaic Bronzer-This bronzer is lovely and can also be used as a blush, great versatile product to take along.

Eye Products:

MUA Professional Eye Primer-Great budget eye primer, not really necessary for camping, but it’s small so I took it along!

MUA Clear Mascara-Another great cheap product to keep my unruly brows in place.

Rimmel Max Volume Lash Flash Mascara-My mascara of choice at the moment, doesn’t give spider lashes.

MUA Undressed Palette-I love this palette and use it almost every day, a palette is great for travel because you can create many looks without fiddling around with individual shadows.  This also doubles up as brow powder as well as one of the matte browns match my eyebrows.

Lip Products:

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lipstain Rendezvous-My new favorite lip product/shade.

Burberry Beauty Lipmist-This was a sample from a Glossybox and I brought it in case I wanted a bit more muted shade.

Eyelash Curler

ELF Blending Brush-Great versatile brush for applying eyeshadow, works for covering lid, applying in crease, browbone, and blending out.

ELF Stippling Brush-I used this for my bronzer.

ELF Kabuki Brush-I use this to apply powder and blend out makeup.

I hope that was helpful, my makeup case is rather small and I still managed to fit everything I need to “do my face” with room to spare.

What products do you bring for short holidays?

FOTD: Gold and Blue

This look was somewhat inspired by Tanya Burr’s “What Makeup I’m Wearing to the Olympics” video.  In this video she paired MAC’s Woodwinked with a bright aqua eyeliner.  I really liked how this combo worked and I had a Midnight Blue Eyeko Skinny Liner hanging around from a Glossybox that wasn’t getting much use.  I’m much more in the black eyeliner at all times camp to be perfectly honest.  But I decided to give it a go and I’m really happy with the results.

Here’s what’s on my face:

L’Oreal Revitalift BB Cream

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Berry

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in Light

MUA Professional Eye Primer

MUA Clear Mascara

MUA Undressed Palette: Shade 6 all over lid, Shade 3 blended into crease

Rimmel Max Volume Lash Flash

Jelly Pong Pong Lip Frosting (from last month’s Glossybox)

And there you have it!  Do you like colored eyeliners?  Whats your favorite way to wear them?

Immaculate Collection Looks: Smokey Purple Eye

This look is a bit different for me and a bit out of my comfort zone.  Mostly because of the purple, purple eyeshadow can be a bit tricky, especially if you don’t want to end up looking like a victim of domestic abuse.  I kept the rest of my face quite neutral to go with the dramatic eye, I was quite pleased with the results.

Definitely something to wear on a night out, I, on the other hand, was messing around with makeup on a Sunday afternoon, mister comes back from the shop and asks me if I’m planning on going somewhere (no, it’s for my blog!).

Collection 2000 Concealer in 02

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

MUA Mosaic Bronzer Shade 1

From the Immaculate Collection:  Shade 3 over the lid (Medium Pink), Shade 7 in Crease and under eye (Dark Purple), Shade 4 to deepen Crease (Black)

Rimmel Max Volume Lash Flash Mascara

Barry M Intense Eyeliner in Black

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Beige Rose

What are your favorite colours to wear?  Am I the only one who plays around with my makeup even though I have nowhere to go?

What’s in My Handbag?

If you haven’t heard of What’s in My Handbag, you need to go check it out.  Basically, it’s a site where everyone from celebrities, makeup artists, style editors to just us beauty bloggers upload the contents of their handbag for you to browse through.  You also get to build up a beauty cabinet by selecting products from the handbags you’re browsing, very cool concept.

So here’s my handbag, I had trouble getting a good photo of it as it’s very soft and kind turns into a blob when sitting.  I bought it from New Look a few months ago for £24.99.  I love it because it has a nice long strap and plenty of room!

And here’s what’s in it (Clockwise, kinda):

Sparkly Disco Purse that holds my work keys and cards (17 Freebie)

Bird Umbrella from H & M

£2 Sunglasses from Primark

Green Wallet (bought it while I lived in the States so UK notes don’t fit properly in it)

Soap and Glory Hand Food and Hand Maid

Como Shambhala Invigorate Body Lotion (from February Glossybox)

Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion

Duwop Venom Gloss (from February Glossybox)

6 Sided Buffing and Filing Thingy from Superdrug

MUA Lip Gloss Shade 4

Illamasqua Freak Sample

Opia Comb

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

I actually have some invites left so you don’t have to wait in the queue to join What’s in My Handbag, but grab them before they’re gone!

Product Review: Murad Hybrids Skin Perfecting Primer

I have to say that this product has probably become my favorite of all the items in the January Glossybox.  I had never used a primer before receiving this product, it just seemed like an extra unnecessary step in my morning makeup routine.  How much crap do I need to slather on my face anyway??

But I was pleasantly surprised because I actually really enjoyed using the Murad Face Primer.  It created a nice base for my makeup, just felt nice on the skin, and also prolonged the wear of my makeup.

I wasn’t too fussed about the dewy finish because I use Maybelline Dream Matte Face powder to set my makeup anyway.  I know some people were concerned when they received this product because it does look a bit dark (or too light depending on your skin tone), but you needn’t worry because it is apparently a universal shade that will blend flawlessly into any skin tone.

So Murad Hybrids Skin Perfecting Primer has converted me and I am interested in trying out other primers now!  I really love this product and was happy to have received it in last month’s Glossybox.

Have you tried any other face primers lately?
