TLC Tag!

Saw Ingrid and Becky do this tag on TalkBeckyTalk Channel and thought I’d give it a whirl.  I do try to give myself a little extra TLC during the colder months.  My skin seems extra temperamental and if I don’t take care of it spots, itchy scalp, and dry skin all seem to crop up!  So here are the extra luxurious and rich products I like to use to treat myself to a little TLC!

2014-01-29 12.28.22

Hands-I am never without my Hand Food.  This is the perfect answer to dry hands, it’s non-greasy and smells delicious.  A firm favorite.

Hair-Recently, I’ve been using the John Frieda Full Repair Perfect Ends Deep Infusion Serum before drying my hair.  This is in addition to my normal heat protectant and I have been noticing a significant difference in the ends of my hair.

Body-The Righteous Butter is a lovely thick body butter.  This is perfect to slather on after a bath before getting into your jim jams.

Lips-Another item I never leave home without is my eos Lip Balm in Pomegranate, keeps my lips protected and moisturised.

Eyes-This was an easy one because it’s the only eye cream I use and its Boots Vitamin E Eye Cream!  Cheap and does the trick.

Skin-For those days when my skin is feeling extra dry, I pat on some Lush Skin Shangri La before I go to bed.  Super rich, definitely not for day time wear, but a perfect hydrating night cream.

Drink-Cold winter evenings call for Twinings Camomile and Spiced Apple tea, perfect as it contains no caffeine and tastes delicious!

I’m no good at these tags so I tag all of you!  Leave me your link in the comments if you do this tag!

The Deal of the Festive Season!

Have you heard?  The Soap and Glory lover’s dream deal is on Friday!  This year it features the gorgeous Yule Monty Gift Set will be reduced from £60 to £27 starting this Friday for one week!

I bought the Soap and Glory Gift Set last year, the Best of Them All Gift and I intend on purchasing the Yule Monty Gift Set this year if I can get my hands on it.  I remember last year that it wasn’t at all difficult to get a gift set and my Boots seemed to have a surplus and they were sitting on the shelves for quite some time.  But the year before, the gift set was nowhere to be found after the first few days.  So I’m wondering if Soap and Glory will make it a bit more exclusive after last year?

The Yule Monty Gift Set contains:

-Sugarcrush Body Wash

The Righteous Butter

Heel Genius Foot Mask

Hand Food

Peaches and Clean

Thick and Fast Mascara

-Scrub of Your Life Body Buffer

-Butter Yourself Body Lotion

-Sexy Mother Pucker in Pink Out Loud

I am really excited for all the products in the gift set, except for maybe Heel Genius as I am still working my way through my tube from last year.  Some stand outs are the Sugarcrush Body Wash (delicious scent and lasts ages!), Peaches and Clean (an amazing cleanser), and the Thick and Fast Mascara (one of my holy grail mascaras).  Also I always need Hand Food, can’t get enough of that stuff!

Will you be snapping up this giftset?  Are you going to be first in line Friday or just see if there’s some hanging around when you can find the time?

August Empties

My empties bag has gotten quite full and was in dire need of an emptying out.  Disclaimer as usual, obviously I haven’t used all these products in August, this is what I’ve used up since my last empties post, which was May, I believe.

2013-08-09 12.01.02Look at them all!  It feels so nice to be able to pitch these all in the recycling bin!  I’ll try to go in a somewhat clockwise fashion here.

Tresemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner-I really liked this pair, they did start to dry out my hair though near the end of the bottles (they lasted over a month).  But keratin is clarifying so I did expect that, I would purchase them again, they made my hair feel really strong.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream-I got this in a Glossybox and I really liked it, definitely something I would repurchase.  Which I should actually do as I don’t have an eye cream at the moment.

Superdrug Heat Defence Spray-I didn’t finish this, but I am chucking it out because I discovered L’Oreal Elnet Heat Protect Spray which is soooo much better and actually makes my hair look better.  I realized after using the Superdrug Spray for a while that it is actually really sticky, so definitely not something to buy.

Pretty Quik Instant Nail Polish Remover-The cheap version of the Bourjois brand, I really like this, but I used it to remove the dark green Barry M Gelly polish and that completely ruined it.  It turned the tips of my nails green every time I used it after that which was kind of a bummer.

Boots Botanics Skin Calming Day Cream SPF 15-I really liked this moisturiser and thought I was repurchasing it, but grabbed the All Bright one instead.  I definitely like the Calming version better as it is richer and more nourishing.

Origins Ginzing Eye Cream-Nice little sample, does give your skin a tingly feeling.  Not enough to see how effective it is though.

17 BB Cream-Love this bb cream, but I have so many on the go at the moment, I won’t be repurchasing.

John Frieda Sheer Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner-I love John Frieda and this was no exception.

L’Oreal Elvive Triple Resist Shampoo-This sample lathered up so well and impressed me so much I went out and bought a set of the full size products, review to come.

V05 Give Me Texture Dry Texturising Spray-Love, love and already repurchased.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Scrub-Another staple that I have repurchased.

Soap and Glory Hand Food-I always need one of these on hand, right now I am using my full size from the Best of All gift set.

Rituals Magice Touch Hand Cream-I got this in a Glossybox, I like the Rituals brand and this was a really nice hand cream.

Whew!  If you got through all that you deserve a pat on the back.  I am just exhausted from typing this all out and will now be motivated to do these a bit more frequently before the empties (trash) start piling up!

Have you tried any of these products out?

Product Review: Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion

I received this Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and Honey Body Lotion in the organic themed Glossy Box.  I’ve used Burt’s Bees products before, I am a big fan of their lip balms.  I really excited to try out this product when I first saw it included in Glossy Box.

I have to say that this thick creamy lotion is taking over my number one hand cream spot from Soap and Glory’s Hand Food.  It is strongly scented and the scent definitely lingers.  I know it is milk and honey, but a lot of my work colleagues say it smells like coconut to them and I have to agree.  I always have this lotion in my hand bag, it leaves long-lasting moisture and you only need to use a small amount.

Have you tried Burt’s Bees products before?  What’s your favorite item from their range?

Product Review: Superdrug Hand and Nail Cream

I am a big fan of Superdrug’s own brand, all the products I’ve tried from their line have never disappointed me.  So the other day when I ran out of my Soap and Glory Hand Food and needed a moisturizer for my handbag STAT, I dropped into Superdrug on my lunch break (as I am prone to do).

The 2 in 1 Hand and Nail Cream had caught my eye before and I decided to give it a go.  It is enriched with keratin and vitamin B5 to help the condition of your nails and if you saw my previous post on Sally Hansen’s Maximum Growth, you know I need all the help I can get.

So how does it stack up?  The only thing I can  say I like better about Soap and Glory’s Hand Food is the scent.  This hand and nail cream has that generic perfumey lotion scent, but it scent disappears quickly so it’s not a huge issue.  It sinks into the skin quickly, it’s not as thick as Hand Food so you do have to use a bit more.

Minor detail, but I like the squeezy tube better than the Hand Food tube.  The Superdrug Hand and Nail Cream is made from very soft plastic, I find because the Hand Food tube is a bit stiffer, it’s hard to get the product out when you’re nearing the end.

So overall, a nice product in a cute pink tube that will probably become a handbag staple.

What do you think of Superdrug’s brand?

What’s in My Handbag?

If you haven’t heard of What’s in My Handbag, you need to go check it out.  Basically, it’s a site where everyone from celebrities, makeup artists, style editors to just us beauty bloggers upload the contents of their handbag for you to browse through.  You also get to build up a beauty cabinet by selecting products from the handbags you’re browsing, very cool concept.

So here’s my handbag, I had trouble getting a good photo of it as it’s very soft and kind turns into a blob when sitting.  I bought it from New Look a few months ago for £24.99.  I love it because it has a nice long strap and plenty of room!

And here’s what’s in it (Clockwise, kinda):

Sparkly Disco Purse that holds my work keys and cards (17 Freebie)

Bird Umbrella from H & M

£2 Sunglasses from Primark

Green Wallet (bought it while I lived in the States so UK notes don’t fit properly in it)

Soap and Glory Hand Food and Hand Maid

Como Shambhala Invigorate Body Lotion (from February Glossybox)

Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion

Duwop Venom Gloss (from February Glossybox)

6 Sided Buffing and Filing Thingy from Superdrug

MUA Lip Gloss Shade 4

Illamasqua Freak Sample

Opia Comb

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

I actually have some invites left so you don’t have to wait in the queue to join What’s in My Handbag, but grab them before they’re gone!

Favorite Products of 2011!

2011 was a pretty decent year for me, started a new job, had my wedding in the states, moved into a lovely new flat, can’t really complain.  But I am excited for 2012 and already have some exciting things to look forward to (Barbados in February being the main event, yay delayed honeymoon!).  2011 was also a good year for me as I discovered quite a few new cosmetics brands as I began familiarizing myself with UK beauty brands, so here are my top picks for 2011:

1.  ELF Eyelid Primer-This stuff is amazing, I picked it up on a whim during a 40% off ELF ordering spree.  I never had used an eyelid primer before this and the difference was incredible.  This primer makes my eyeshadow stay put all day and at only a £1.50 you can’t go wrong.

2.  MUA Heaven and Earth Palette-A steal at £4, this palette was rampantly featured when it came out this year on beauty blogs across the web and with good reason.  I use this gorgeous neutral toned palette almost every day.  The pigmentation is amazing and the range of colours can be used to create a ton of looks.

3.  Soap and Glory Hand Food-I started using this hand cream after seeing it featured in youtube videos on missglamorazzi and FleurdeForce’s channels.  It’s not too greasy, the smaller size is perfect hand bag size and it smells delicious.  This is definitely a staple that I will be purchasing again and again.

4.  Monu Revitalising Moisturizer-I received this moisturizer in my November Glossybox and after using Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture for years, I was converted.  This moisturizer smells lovely, leaves your face perfectly matte, while leaving your skin soft and supple.  Love.

5.  Maybelline Dream Matte Powder-I started using this face powder in Rose Ivory earlier this year and have repurchased it a few times since then.  It is my perfect face powder and it takes the shine off of your face and keeps it matte practically all day long.  When my skin is behaving, I just dot on a bit of concealer and brush this powder over my face and there’s no need for foundation!  The packaging is also really cool with a swing out mirror.

6.  Cover Girl Lashblast Fusion Mascara-I have tried mascara after mascara, but this is the one for me.  I love that is lengthens and defines my lashes without making them look clumpy or spidery.

7.  Rituals Foaming Shower Gel-Another item from Glossybox (the December box).  I love this foaming shower gel, it smells amazing, lightly scents your skin, leaves your skin soft, and can also double up as a shaving cream.  It is also fun to use, which is a plus 🙂

8.  17 Fast Finish Nail Polish-I picked up this brand on a whim when I was looking for a red Barry M nail polish to do Christmas nails and Boots was completely sold out of that particular Barry M colour.  I am so glad I gave this brand a go though because for bargain nail polishes (Barry M and ELF), it lasts a lot longer, dries a lot faster, and is just a better formula in my opinion.

9.  Dove Beauty Finish Anti-Perspirant Deodorant-I know, I know, deodorant, how  exciting!  But we all use it (I hope) so it’s going on the list.  I love Dove products anyway, but was a bit skeptical when this product came out with its claims of “beauty minerals”.  Not sure what beauty minerals are supposed to do to your armpits, but this deodorant smells lovely (nicer than my standard cucumber) , is moisturizing and does the job and its pink.

So there are my top picks for 2011!  What are your favorite products that went strong this year?  What new products did you try that have become staples?
