December Glossybox Review

I was really excited to receive my December Glossybox hoping that it would be a good one for the festive season.  And I was not disappointed, I really love that they went with a shiny silver box with starry black tissue paper inside.

2012-12-22 12.41.53As you can see the insert was a lot bigger this month and contains discount codes for many of the brands included in Glossybox this year.

2012-12-22 12.42.56Lemon by Mary Greenwell Eau de Parfum-When I first opened my box at work with the ladies I work with, I got a lot of “this smells like old ladies”, which may be true, but it’s actually grown on me and I quite like it.  It’s a citrusy floral scent.

Sleek Makeup True Colour Lipstick in O.M.G.!-I was actually excited to receive a red lipstick because I don’t own any and red lips seem to be in at the moment.  Unfortunately, red lips make me look like a clown, this is a nice lipstick though, just wish I had it in another shade.

Seche Nail Laquer in Lumiere-Really excited to try this as I have heard good things about Seche, but haven’t tried their fabled quick dry topcoat yet.  I also like this colour, I don’t have anything in my collection like it.

2012-12-22 12.43.54Rituals Magic Touch Cherry Blossom and Rice Milk-I loved the Rituals foaming shower gel and this body cream looks to be just as good.  This has gone straight into my handbag, the scent is lovely.

Glossybox Blusher in Glossy Pink-This is actually a really nice blusher, just be careful because they aren’t lying about how pigmented it is.  I thought because of the light colour I could apply it quite heavy-handed and ended up with bright pink clown cheeks, but used in a small amount, it’s a lovely blush.

Sebamed Anti-Dry Night Intensive Cream-Adding this to my winter arsenal to battle dry skin.

What did you think of the December Glossybox?  Are you saying goodbye to beauty box subscriptions in the New Year?

November Glossybox Review

I have to say I was really happy with this month’s Glossybox.  I will be using all the products in this month’s box, themed “Stocking Fillers”.  It makes me quite excited for their December Christmas box since th box leading up to it was so good!

And onto the contents!  As you can see from the picture above, it’s a nice full box!

Dr Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm-I’ve been wanting to try this brand of BB cream and just in general after hearing it being raved about in the blogosphere.  I have already swapped out my 17 BB cream for this sample and loves how it looks and feels on my skin.  Seperate review will be coming when I have a bit more time to test it out.

Burberry Body Eau De Parfum-I’ve heard about this perfume from beauty gurus on blogs and youtube, but have never tried it myself.  I love the bottle the sample came in, much better than a tiny plastic vial!  Unfortunately, I think this scent is a bit too mature smelling for me, still deciding how I feel about it.

Alison Claire Natural Beauty Mango Body Butter-I had never heard of this brand, but I love this body butter.  The pump makes it so neat and easy to use, the smell is very fresh like real mango.  I also find it very moisturizing and it sinks into the skin quickly and doesn’t leave you greasy like some body butters *coughBodyShop*.

Nails Inc Kensington Caviar Top Coat-It was actually nice to get a decent top coat because I’ve been using my ELF top coat and it’s just not cutting it for me.  I’ve already used this sample and it gets points for drying quickly, leaving a glossy finish and making my nail polish last longer!

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant-Probably the most intriguing item in the box, it’s a dry rice based powder in a shakey container that you mix with water to form a paste and then use to exfoliate your face.  I can’t wait to try this, it looks a lot gentler than my beloved St. Ives Apricot scrub.

Did you receive the November Glossybox, what did you think?  Have you tried any of these products?

October Glossybox Review

I was a bit surprised that there weren’t really any spoiler posts about this month’s Glossybox, usually the Glossybox ambassadors receive their boxes early and I have to fight temptation not to sneak a peek(anyone else notice this?).  Which usually fails and then I end up a bit disappointed.  I am happy to say that I was completely happy with this month’s Glossybox and I really think the Glossybox team did a fantastic job this month!

The theme this month was DIY beauty and the box contained goodies to create the ultimate “home spa experience”.  Also not the Breast Cancer Care sticker, Glossybox will be donating this month to Breast Cancer Care in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month!

As you can see from the contents, it was a nicely filled box full of generous samples.

Green People Organic Self Tan-This was the only product I wasn’t too thrilled about as I don’t really use fake tan, I prefer to rock my pale look, especially in the winter.  I will probably save it for a special occasion though.

Anatomicals Don’t just clean it woman, scrub it body scrub-This scrub smells amazing, like fresh grapefruit.  This is perfect for my flakey winter skin.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure-I used this nail polish the other day and will be doing a separate post on it because I loved it so much!

Yves Rocher France instant Anti-Wrinkle Moisturiser HYDRA VEGETAL-I was really excited to receive this with all the hype about Hyaluronic Acid in the beauty world lately (plus I just love getting moisturisers in Glossyboxes, they never seem to disappoint).

Skinetica Anti-Blemish-This is a unique blemish clearing solution that is applied to clean skin like a toner.

So, as you can see I am really happy with this month’s box and I’ve also managed to earn myself another free Glossybox for next month by doing a backlog of product surveys for Glossydots 🙂  I definitely think this box has been the best that has come out in a while.

September Glossybox Review

This month Glossybox teamed up with illustrator, Maggie Li, to create this month’s gorgeous box.

The contents, however, were less impressive than the packaging.  I made the unfortunate mistake of taking a sneak peek at the early reviews from Glossybox Ambassadors before I received my box and was quite excited at the prospect of receiving a full-sized L’Oreal Mythic Oil.  Now, apparently that full-sized item was not included in all the Glossyboxes and I was left feeling like my Glossybox was rather empty this month compared to some.

Vichy Idealia Day Care Cream-I am always happy to receive moisturizers in my Glossyboxes and can’t wait to try this out (as I just ran out of my last Glossybox sample of Monu Face cream).  This is supposed to illuminate and improve your complexion, will let you know how I get on with it!

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream-After hearing this product being raved about in the beauty blogosphere I was also quite excited to see this in the box.  And as I have just gotten a year older, I need to start adding an eye cream to my skin care routine.

Lady Gaga Fame Fragrance-I have been curious about this fragrance so I was excited to give this scent a go.  It’s not really what I expected from Lady Gaga though, it quite a sugary sweet floral fragrance, I guess I was expecting something a bit deeper.

Rodial Glamoxy Snake Serum and Rodial 5 Minute Facial-This product was a little disappointing as the satchets were so small (in combination with a small fragrance sample!).  You do receive 2 of each product, I am interested to try these products, but doubt I have enough to get a real impression.

Maghrabian Hair Oil-Like I said before, I haven’t tried hair oils so I am excited to give this a go, I just wish I had been lucky enough to receive the Mythic Oil as I probably wouldn’t repurchase this particular brand with much more affordable hair oils on the market.

So overall, kind of a meh box, I think if I had not known others had received a full-sized product, I would be happier with the box.  I am looking forward to trying everything in this month’s box, I just feel a bit cheated.
What did you receive in your Glossybox this month?  Have you tried any of these products before?

DIY Makeup Drawers

Last month, DIY Glossybox makeup drawers seemed to take over the blogosphere.  Like most of the lovely ladies with a beauty box subscription, I had a stock of Glossyboxes piling up in my closet despite using them for gifts, holding makeup, storage, etc.  So I thought this was the perfect thing to use my excess boxes for!  For instructions on how to make your own beauty box drawers, here is the original article on Jan Ban’s blog!

I was actually quite surprised at how easy it was to assemble and how nice it looked afterward (I skipped some decorating bits with the ribbon because I couldn’t be fussed, but I still think it looks nice!).  Some things to note though:

-Careful with the Superglue, it’s not nice on the skin

-This is best used for storage rather than everyday makeup as the drawers are a bit difficult to slide in and out

-Superglue will not hold the pulls on, I would say they are more decorative

Have you ever made your own makeup storage?  Is this something you would try for yourself?

July Glossybox Review!

I have to say I am super pleased with this month’s Festival themed Glossybox.  There is only one sample I am not too keen on, but the other products in the box make up for that by far.

I know Glossybox receives a lot of criticism and there have been a few boxes that have not been very impressive, but overall I am happy enough to continue my subscription.  And I also have accumulated enough Glossydots now for a free box which is also a plus!

And on to the contents!

Elizabeth Arden’s Visible Difference Skin Balancing Line:  This was included as an extra product which I am glad off because the tiny satchets don’t really contain enough product to test anyway.  You can present the Glossybox card at any Debenham’s Elizabeth Arden counter to receive a deluxe sample though!

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse:  I was really excited to see this brand included, there has been a lot of blogger hype about Nuxe and I am happy to be able to try one of their products.  This is a dry oil for face, body and hair, it smells quite floral.

Bex London Londoner Urban Fragrance:  The idea behind this fragrance is quite intriguing (4 scents inspired by the character and idiosyncrasies of London), but this is a very masculine scent.  Not for me, but it might be up my husband’s alley.

Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist:  Another product I was really happy to receive, it’s a refreshing spray for hair and skin.  My hair gets dried out quite easily in the summer so I can see myself popping this in my beach bag.  It’s nice that it doubles as a skin and hair refresher.

Monu Night Renewal Complex:  I am a huge fan of Monu, I only found out about this brand through Glossybox and I love whenever it is included in a box.  Their moisturizers are amazing and I can’t wait to try out this night cream.

Jelly Pong Pong Lip Frosting:  This is probably my favorite product in the entire box.  This is a bright pink cream gloss that is to be used on lips and cheeks (I personally would not use it on my cheeks as it is quite sticky).  It is Irish Cream Pavlova scented and wow, is it an amazing scent!  The only fault with this sample is the packaging, you need the smallest amount and it is quite easy to get excess with the squeezy tube.

So a lot of really good brands in this box!  I was slightly disappointed that I didn’t receive the HD Brow Kit for a SECOND time, but considering I have eyeshadows in most of the shades included in the kit, there’s really no need for it anyway.

What is your favorite brand/product included in this month’s Glossybox?

May Glossybox Review: Happy Birthday!

I almost couldn’t be bothered to do a post on this month’s Glossybox, but I feel the need to keep the series going for continuity’s sake.

Like most people, I was a bit underwhelmed with this month’s anniversary box.  It’s not a bad box by any means, but last month’s box was just so perfect in my opinion that there was no real comparison with what was included in the May box.

There were some extras included in this month’s box: a cute pink balloon and a Glossybox mirror that will go perfectly into your handbag.

Lolita Lempicka: I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s noticed this, but this brand is doing some major PR work at the moment, I’ve seen giveaways for this perfume on almost every major beauty blog.  Two samples were included: L’Eau en Blanc which is a bit powdery and I didn’t really care for it, but Si Lolita was a bit more complex and spicy.  I know some people don’t like receiving perfume samples in their box, but I really enjoy trying out new fragrances this way.

Weleda Face Cream:  I really like Weleda as a company so I was happy to receive what appears to be a night cream.  I just wish there was something in English on it so I could figure out what it’s supposed to do.

Let’s Go Lashes:  I was actually contemplating picking up some fake lashes to play with so I was happy to receive these.  I would not buy from this company though that uses the phrase “man magnet” in their product description.  Gross.

Noble Isle Summer Rising Bath and Shower Gel:  The shower gel comes from a new British bath and body company, it smells lovely and I can’t wait to use it.

Uniqone All in One Hair Treatment:  While the claim of providing ten benefits for your hair in one product seems a bit far-fetched, I am still excited to try this leave on hair mask.

And there you have it folks.  Are you still on the Glossybox bandwagon or did you fall off long ago?  What did you think of this month’s box?
