DKNY Dreamsicle

I’ve amassed quite a large perfume collection, especially for someone who didn’t really “get into” perfume until 2 or 3 years ago.  My first proper perfume was DKNY Be Delicious, which is still my favorite of all the DKNY releases, but I have to say that Dreamsicle almost manages to pip it to the post.

First off, the packaging.  Gorgeous.  And the light peachy colour feels so spring like and reflects the perfume inside perfectly.  I did try all 3 new releases at Boots, Cool Swirl was my least favorite, not quite as sweet as the other two, Tutti Rooty was nice, but a bit too sickly and Dreamsicle is a light and fruity peachiness that isn’t really like anything in my collection.

The description read as:

“The refreshing treat opens onto juicy mandarin and lush raspberry, dipped in mouthwatering blackcurrant for a vibrant splash of indulgence. The alluring journey lingers as exhilarating green apple harmoniously blends with dazzling accents of peach nectar and apricot sorbet. The background envelopes cedarwood heart and blends with a rich swirl of creamy sandalwood and balmy vanilla beans to create a blissful feeling of undeniable seduction.”

Which sounds lovely and poetic, but I mostly smell the peach.

I think this will definitely become my signature scent this spring, it’s such a nice and appealing scent.  I would definitely urge you to get down to the shop and have a whiff of all 3!

What I Got For Christmas 2013

Hello my neglected blog readers!  Sorry for the hiatus, but I have spent the past two weeks in Minnesota visiting with family and friends and enjoying my first Christmas back in the states after spending the past couple in the UK.  So blogging was quite far from my mind during that time, but new year, new start and all that jazz so I have quite a few posts in the works at the moment.

*Standard disclaimer about how I’m not bragging and if this kind of post isn’t for you, kindly click away, etc, etc, blah de blah blah*

Feeling very lucky/spoilt this year, I received so many wonderful gifts!

2014-01-05 11.49.23Candles!  I love candles so much, I received the GINORMOUS Woodwick Trilogy in Exotic Spices from the mister.  And I also received the Bath and Bodyworks 3 wick candles in Winter Candy Apple, Cranberry Pear Bellini, Champagne Toast, and Mahogany Teakwood from my parents.  Considering there isn’t Bath and Bodyworks in the UK, I had to ask for scents based on blogger/vloggers favorites and they are good ones!  I currently have Winter Candy Apple in my living room and Mahogany Teakwood in the bathroom.  I think I did an extraordinary job of transporting these babies in my luggage intact all the way from Minnesota back to the UK!

2014-01-05 11.50.02I also received some books from the family as well.  I am a huge fan of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta series and asked for the newest book, Dust.  Also a HUGE Stephen King fan and got Doctor Sleep, a sequel to the Shining.  Can’t wait to get stuck into both of these, but which one first?? (Also between the books and the candles, I am rather impressed I managed to keep my luggage under weight coming back!).

2014-01-05 11.50.35I was very excited to receive the Teapigs Pick n’ Mix sampler from my brother-in-law.  I’ve already tried the chai (delicious with milk and honey) and the much raved about peppermint liquorice.  I asked for and got a Minnesota mug from my sister this year.  I’ve been trying to get a mug now every time we visit someplace new so someday we will have a nice hodge podge of mugs from all the places we’ve travelled (inspired by Essiebutton) and I had to have one from my home state!  I love this mug, it is covered in all things Minnesotan!

2014-01-05 11.51.42My big gift from the hubby this year was a Kindle Paperwhite.  I love reading, but as you can see by the kind of books I read, they are not really handbag friendly and since I read on my lunch hour/on the bus to work, I am often schlepping heavy old books back and forth to work.  I am one of those people who was not too keen on e-readers at first because I love the feel of a good heavy book, but everyone I know who uses an e-reader raves about it.  Can’t wait to load this baby up with books, suggestions welcome!  He also got me an orange cover (my favorite colour) to go with it.  I also got the DKNY Be Delicious fragrance set from my mom and dad.  This is my original all time favorite perfume, I ran out and bought the Red Delicious one year (the Red ALWAYS seems to be on offer), but it’s just not as good and I am happy to have an old favorite back!

2014-01-05 11.52.57And would Christmas be complete without Soap and Glory?  The bits on the left are from the Relaxstation gift set which I got from work.  It came with a hair turban that I have been using and absolutely love, it really cuts down on hair drying time.  I bought the Yule Monty gift for myself, haha, such a bargain I could not resist.  And I won the manicure set on the end in a Twitter giveaway from Amelia Liana.  So I think I will be well stocked with Soap and Glory for upcoming year 🙂

Hope everyone had a lovely holiday and New Year!  I am back to work on Monday which I think will be a bit of a shock, hope I will mostly be over my jet lag by then!

What was your favorite gift you received this year?  Anyone else fall off the blogging bandwagon over the holiday season?

January Empties

Again, disclaimer to start off with:  I did not use up all these empties in the month of January, in fact these are from November onward from where I did my last empties post found here.  So without further ado, here’s my trash!

emptiesClean and Clear Morning Energy-This is a nice cleanser that I use in the shower every morning.  It contains bursting beads that gently exfoliate without being too harsh.  This isn’t a definite repurchase for me as I prefer the Neutrogena Visibly Clean Grapefruit scrub.

DKNY Be Delicious-I love this perfume, it’s fresh and fruity and I prefer it to the Red Delicious.  I will not be repurchasing for a while though as I was spoiled with perfumes at Christmas this year and can’t justify buying more.

John Frieda Full Repair Shampoo and Conditioner-This is a nice shampoo and conditioner set, it moisturizes your hair without weighing it down and I have already repurchased.  The only thing I find strange about this line is that the conditioner is actually thicker and feels more moisturizing than the deep repair hair masque in the line.  So skip on the masque, get the conditioner instead!

Got2Be Collagen Lift Hairspray-This is my Holy Grail hairspray.  It smells amazing which is odd for hairspray and gives enough volume/hold without making your hair crispy or sticky.  Definite repurchase.

Wilko’s Fruity Shower Smoothie/Cream-Love these, they are cheap and cheerful and are a bathroom staple.  They are always 2 for £1.50 at Wilko’s, we use their hand soap as well, nothing bad to say about it.

Body Shop Mango Shower Gel-This was a nice shower gel, nothing too exciting.  I got it in one of their discounted gift sets last year after Christmas.  I did get another discounted scent this year in coconut!  Probably wouldn’t pay full price for this product.

ELF Blush/Bronzer Brush-This has been the only ELF brush I have purchased that has been absolute crap, I got the Real Techniques Blush Brush recently so felt it was time to throw this piece of crap out.  It has coarse bristles, barely picks up any product, shed, and falls apart.  Bad, bad, bad.

Montagne Jeunesse Prickly Pear Peel-Like most Montagne Jeunesse face masks, this smelled absolutely amazing.  It did make my skin feel a lot better, I love peel off masks, I just imagine it taking all the junk off my face when I pull it off.  Would repurchase.

And there are my empties!

Have you tried any of these products lately?  Thoughts?

Product Review: DKNY Red Delicious

Imagine my shock when the mister actually offered to take me to the after Christmas day sales!  While fighting my way through hordes of bargain hunters, both of us did manage to pick up some discounted fragrances at the Boots sale (I had initially been on the hunt for Soap and Glory gifts sets, but the only one that any place seemed to have left was the Yum at Heart which no one seems to want).  I actually received the DKNY Be Delicious last year for Christmas and this has been my signature scent all year round.  I just love the fresh and fruity smell, it’s not too overpowering and I am a fan of fruity scents.

The DKNY Be Delicious was not part of the sale so I decided to venture out from my usual scent.  I am not a fan of the Golden Delicious as I find it too floral for my tastes, but the Red Delicious is lovely and just slightly differs from my favorite Be Delicious.  The scent notes are: champagne, lychee, raspberry, apple, rose, amber, musk and vanilla.

What fragrance are you wearing at the moment?  Did you manage to find any worthwhile bargains during the after Christmas sales?
