August Empties

Technically, I didn’t use up all these products in August, I’ve actually been saving them up for a few months.  Due to the fact that I just seem to use up products quite slowly or the mister chucks out something when its finished (he still can’t grasp the fact why I want to keep a bag of “trash” in the corner of our room).  But anyway, here’s what empties I’ve managed to save and my thoughts!  Reviews will be linked under the product name if I have reviewed the product on my blog.

Herbal Essences Smooth and Soft Shampoo:  I love Herbal Essences and will definitely be repurchasing this shampoo again.

Burts Bees Naturally Nourishing Mild and Honey Body Lotion:  This hand lotion that was included in a Glossybox replaced Soap and Glory’s Hand Food as my holy grail hand moisturizer.

Noble Isle Summer Rising Bath and Shower Gel:  I loved the scent of this shower gel, very luxurious, but because of the price I can’t see myself repurchasing.

Superdrug Cranberry and Pomegranate Shower Gel:  I will not be repurchasing this as the scent came off a little bit medicinal, it kind of reminded me of berry cough syrup 😛

Primark Gentle Face Wipes:  At £1 for two packs of these babies, you can’t go wrong, a staple of mine.

Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion:  This is my absolutely favorite mascara (I purchased this while still living in the states), I still want to give the Max Factor version a go here in the UK.

ELF Eyelid Primer:  A great eyelid primer that gets the job done for a good price.

Natural Being Manuka Cleanser:  This was a lovely, gentle, creamy cleanser that was free from all nasty chemicals, would repurchase.

Superdrug Dry Shampoo in Head in the Clouds:  This is a great dry shampoo with a nice citrusy scent, will definitely repurchase.
And there you have it folks!  Let me know if you’ve tried any of these products and what you thought!

Product Review: Rimmel Max Volume Flash Mascara

Mascara is something that I am super picky about.  Because I am so picky, I have been using the same tube of Cover Girl LashBlast Fusion for way too long.  Now my Cover Girl LashBlast was purchased when I lived in the states, over here it is the same as the Max Factor Fusion mascara.  So I could repurchase, but for some reason I don’t like the idea of shelling out £12.99 on a mascara (gasp, I know, what can I say? I’m kind of cheap).  So while lamenting about my plight to a friend, she suggested Rimmel Max Volume Flash as a more frugal alternative (about £6.69).

The packaging is cute and bright, no complaints there.  The brush is a bit different from the Covergirl brush and I think I prefer the plastic Covergirl brush to this bristle brush.  It’s not as easy to get to the smaller corner lashes without smudging the wand around your eye.

And here’s the before pic:And after:

I found this mascara to be rather wet, but that may just be because I am used to using a 3-year-old mascara (ewww).  It did make my lashes look longer, but didn’t define as well as the Lashblast Fusion, they were starting to verge on clumpy and I hate clumpy looking lashes with a passion.  Overall though, I have to say this is a decent mascara for the price and I will continue using it.

What’s your Holy Grail mascara?

What’s in My Handbag?

If you haven’t heard of What’s in My Handbag, you need to go check it out.  Basically, it’s a site where everyone from celebrities, makeup artists, style editors to just us beauty bloggers upload the contents of their handbag for you to browse through.  You also get to build up a beauty cabinet by selecting products from the handbags you’re browsing, very cool concept.

So here’s my handbag, I had trouble getting a good photo of it as it’s very soft and kind turns into a blob when sitting.  I bought it from New Look a few months ago for £24.99.  I love it because it has a nice long strap and plenty of room!

And here’s what’s in it (Clockwise, kinda):

Sparkly Disco Purse that holds my work keys and cards (17 Freebie)

Bird Umbrella from H & M

£2 Sunglasses from Primark

Green Wallet (bought it while I lived in the States so UK notes don’t fit properly in it)

Soap and Glory Hand Food and Hand Maid

Como Shambhala Invigorate Body Lotion (from February Glossybox)

Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion

Duwop Venom Gloss (from February Glossybox)

6 Sided Buffing and Filing Thingy from Superdrug

MUA Lip Gloss Shade 4

Illamasqua Freak Sample

Opia Comb

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

I actually have some invites left so you don’t have to wait in the queue to join What’s in My Handbag, but grab them before they’re gone!

FOTD: Into Town

Met a friend in town for some shopping and lunch on Saturday.  We were meant to be going for bagels, but found the bagel shop had been replaced by a little sushi place.  It turned out to be a pleasant surprise because their sushi was lovely, fresh, and reasonably priced so if you are in Bournemouth, you need to check out Sushi and Roll.  It’s right next to Prezzo down from the cinema.

For my makeup, I got some use out of my Heaven and Earth palette with a nice neutral look.

ELF All Over Cover Stick in Apricot Beige

Murad Hybrids Skin Perfecting Primer Dewy Finish

Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Berry

ELF Eyelid Primer

MUA Heaven and Earth Palette (photo to show which colours I used on the lid, crease and highlight)

ELF Shimmer Eyeliner Pencil in Gunmetal

Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion Mascara

ELF Wet Gloss Brow and Lash Gel

Duwop Venom Gloss (from February Glossybox)

Hope you like the look!

Any readers from the Bournemouth area?  What’s your favorite place for a weekend lunch in town?

-Sleek I-Divine in Storm (champagne color as base and highlight from lid to brow bone, light pink over lid, dark pink in crease)

-Barry M Intense Eyeliner in Black

-Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion

-Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Beige Rose

What are you doing this weekend?

Favorite Products of 2011!

2011 was a pretty decent year for me, started a new job, had my wedding in the states, moved into a lovely new flat, can’t really complain.  But I am excited for 2012 and already have some exciting things to look forward to (Barbados in February being the main event, yay delayed honeymoon!).  2011 was also a good year for me as I discovered quite a few new cosmetics brands as I began familiarizing myself with UK beauty brands, so here are my top picks for 2011:

1.  ELF Eyelid Primer-This stuff is amazing, I picked it up on a whim during a 40% off ELF ordering spree.  I never had used an eyelid primer before this and the difference was incredible.  This primer makes my eyeshadow stay put all day and at only a £1.50 you can’t go wrong.

2.  MUA Heaven and Earth Palette-A steal at £4, this palette was rampantly featured when it came out this year on beauty blogs across the web and with good reason.  I use this gorgeous neutral toned palette almost every day.  The pigmentation is amazing and the range of colours can be used to create a ton of looks.

3.  Soap and Glory Hand Food-I started using this hand cream after seeing it featured in youtube videos on missglamorazzi and FleurdeForce’s channels.  It’s not too greasy, the smaller size is perfect hand bag size and it smells delicious.  This is definitely a staple that I will be purchasing again and again.

4.  Monu Revitalising Moisturizer-I received this moisturizer in my November Glossybox and after using Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture for years, I was converted.  This moisturizer smells lovely, leaves your face perfectly matte, while leaving your skin soft and supple.  Love.

5.  Maybelline Dream Matte Powder-I started using this face powder in Rose Ivory earlier this year and have repurchased it a few times since then.  It is my perfect face powder and it takes the shine off of your face and keeps it matte practically all day long.  When my skin is behaving, I just dot on a bit of concealer and brush this powder over my face and there’s no need for foundation!  The packaging is also really cool with a swing out mirror.

6.  Cover Girl Lashblast Fusion Mascara-I have tried mascara after mascara, but this is the one for me.  I love that is lengthens and defines my lashes without making them look clumpy or spidery.

7.  Rituals Foaming Shower Gel-Another item from Glossybox (the December box).  I love this foaming shower gel, it smells amazing, lightly scents your skin, leaves your skin soft, and can also double up as a shaving cream.  It is also fun to use, which is a plus 🙂

8.  17 Fast Finish Nail Polish-I picked up this brand on a whim when I was looking for a red Barry M nail polish to do Christmas nails and Boots was completely sold out of that particular Barry M colour.  I am so glad I gave this brand a go though because for bargain nail polishes (Barry M and ELF), it lasts a lot longer, dries a lot faster, and is just a better formula in my opinion.

9.  Dove Beauty Finish Anti-Perspirant Deodorant-I know, I know, deodorant, how  exciting!  But we all use it (I hope) so it’s going on the list.  I love Dove products anyway, but was a bit skeptical when this product came out with its claims of “beauty minerals”.  Not sure what beauty minerals are supposed to do to your armpits, but this deodorant smells lovely (nicer than my standard cucumber) , is moisturizing and does the job and its pink.

So there are my top picks for 2011!  What are your favorite products that went strong this year?  What new products did you try that have become staples?

5 Minute Makeup: Daily Work Look

My daily makeup routine is quite minimal.  My morning usually consists of the following:  alarm goes off, hit snooze button 1-3 times depending on how late I stayed up watching episodes of Dexter, gather clothing, shower, make cup of tea, sip tea and browse the internets, realize I have to leave in 10 minutes and throw on some basic makeup before heading out the door.

So as you can see, my makeup routine is not high on my priority list and I am definitely in the less is more camp.  I used to not even wear makeup to work, just a sweep of face powder if I was looking particularly shiny, but being that I am interacting on a face to face basis with customers every day, I have taken a bit more time to develop a routine.

So I’ll walk you through my quick and simple makeup routine (that also will not break the budget!).  I start off using some of ELF’s All Over Cover Stick in Apricot Beige, I usually just dab some under the eyes to cover up my under eye circles and anywhere else that looks a bit red (around the nose and my chin usually, I do generally have pretty clear skin though).  After concealing, I used my ELF Kabuki brush to buff Maybelline’s Dream Matte Powder in Rose Ivory over my entire face.  I started using this powder after I heard MissGlamorazzi raving about it on Youtube and it is an amazing face powder.  It makes your face stay perfectly matte all day (although my skin has been quite matte just using the Monu Revitalising Moisturizer I received in my November Glossybox).

This powder also has the coolest packaging with a substantially sized swing out mirror and compartment for the applicator.  I am not using foundation at the moment just because I don’t really think its necessary, I want a natural look and my skin isn’t in a condition where I would need the extra cover at the moment.

After powdering my face, I use ELF’s Eyelid Primer on my eyelids.  Now this is an amazing product for the price, it really does keep my eyeshadow from creasing and falling out and I don’t see the need to spend any more on a higher end product.  This is one of ELF’s gems in my opinion.  My eyeshadow looks have been created mainly using neutrals from my Sleek Storm I-Divine palette or my MUA Heaven and Earth palette, love the colours in both of these palettes.

For the finishing touches on the eyes, I add some Barry M Intense eyeliner and use my Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion mascara.  I really love my Lash Blast Fusion mascara, but I bought it while I was still living in the states and I’m pretty sure you can’t get it here.  I do believe there is a Max Factor equivalent that I will have to look into because I absolutely love this mascara.  The Barry M eyeliner is nothing to write home about.  I will also use ELF’s Eyebrow Gel if my eyebrows are looking particularily unruly in the morning.

For blush, I use Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Berry.  I really love this blush and you only need a small amount of product to get a healthy looking flush.  As you can probably tell, I am a fan of Super Drug’s 3 for 2 deal, haha 🙂  Then I finish with popping on some lipstick, really liking the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Beige Rose.  It’s a nice neutral pink and not too garish for the workplace.  And by this time, I look presentable to the general public and can head out the door.

How long does it take you to do your morning makeup routine?  Do you have a quick go to every day look for when you are running short on time?
