What’s in My Handbag? Part 2

I have not had much luck with my handbags lately.  While in the airport last summer, as I was zipping this lovely bag up, the zipper decided to fly right off and landed somewhere unknown to myself.  So I bought a rather large sack of a bag during my trip to replace it.  I thought I loved the new bag at first, but realized that it was way too big.  As I stood at the bus stop one day, rummaging futilely for my iPod, a 14-year-old boy suggested I might want a smaller bag after about 15 minutes had passed with no iPod emerging.  If random strangers felt the need to comment on the size, I knew there was probably a problem.

So I bought one of those purse organizer dealies, which kind of helped.  Then the bag started ripping near the handles a mere 4 months after purchase.  So I took the opportunity on our second states trip at Christmas to buy a smaller, more sensibly sized, and durable bag.

2014-01-19 12.48.34And so far, so good.  It’s a nice deep red, a detour from my go to brown.  A bit satchel-esque in design, with plenty of pockets inside, a nice long strap, and a bit of shiny hardware.  So here’s an updated “What’s in my handbag?” for you all!

2014-01-19 12.50.52Green Purse-Bought this when I was still living in the states so £20 notes don’t really fit in it as its made for dollars (not really an issue as I rarely have cash on me, much less a £20 note).

eos Lip Balm-My favorite lip balm!

Primark Brush and Comb-Super handy and I think the pair cost only a pound.

Kindle Paperwhite-My beloved, I never leave home without it now.

iPod-Necessary to drown out mouthy 14 year olds at the bus stop (also can you tell I like orange?).

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer-Necessary for touch ups during the day.

2014 Planner

Pouch with paracetamol, throat sweets, etc-Basically my little first aid kit.

Umbrella-A must have in the UK.

The Righteous Butter-This is replacing Hand Food at the moment.

Bath and Bodyworks Hand Sanitizer

Babylips-I don’t really like this, but keep it in my purse in the hopes I might use it up one day.

What are your handbag essentials?  How often do you change out your handbag?

Top 5 Repurchases!

There are some items in my beauty arsenal that I will repurchase over and over again.  I guess in the beauty world, these would be my holy grail products, they do the job and they do the job well!  I’ve noticed most things that I repurchase fall into the hair care and skin care category, rather than makeup.  I think this is because with makeup, I like to be a bit more experimental, where when it comes to my hair and skin, I just want something that does what it’s supposed to do.  So here are my top 5 repurchases!

2013-11-03 10.32.57got2b 2 Sexy Big Volume-I raved about the Collagen Lift version of this, but when I went to repurchase, the Collagen Lift was nowhere to be found so I ended up with Big Volume.  I actually prefer this to the Collagen Lift because that gives you more of a “freeze” hold, where this is a nice light hold that you can brush through to get volume and it still smells amazing.  Hairspray that doesn’t reek?  Yes please.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder-Yes, you’ve heard Tanya Burr rave on about this product, but with good reason!  Its cheap and cheerful and keeps you shine free all day!  I love this stuff and I also like that they have embossed the powder with the Rimmel logo now!

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer-I always have a back up hanging around of this product (you can tell this is the backup because it doesn’t look like crap with all the writing smudged off).  Even though, I have been enjoying the Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer, I always come back to this guy to cover up those blemishes and dark circles.

L’Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution-Apparently, a dupe for Bioderma, this micellar solution dissolves away makeup and is the lazy girl’s dream product.  It takes off the toughest eye makeup without stinging your eyes or drying out your skin.  This is my 3rd bottle and it won’t be my last.

V05 GIve Me Texture Dry Texturising Spray-I am forever battling with fine limp hair and this texturising spray does amazing things for me.  You need this in your life if you struggle to get volume in your hair.  Check out my review if you need proof that this stuff works!  It volumizes or if you just need some texture in your freshly washed hair to hold a style better, this stuff is perfect.  I guess this it what I imagine that horrendously expense Oribe spray does, if I could afford it.

What products do you repurchase without fail or have a cheeky backup waiting in the ranks?  Do you tend to repurchase makeup, skin care, or hair items?

2013-03-09 13.08.50I will probably add a bit of black eyeliner and smoke up the shadow a bit more before we go out for the evening!

What are you plans for the weekend?  How do you go from day to night?

FOTD: Pints and Pool

Not a very glamourous sounding Face of the Day, but since the mister and I seldom go out, I take any chance I get to do my makeup up a bit.  I am also proud to say I had a very good game of pool this weekend (and apparently the only girl there who didn’t need coaching on how to hold a pool cue, haha!).  I apologize for the red-eye, as it was in the evening was forced to use the dreaded flash.

2013-01-26 19.39.26I was actually really happy with my hair, you may know I have the world’s flattest hair, this is the result of an upside down blow dry and a bit of hairspray!

And the products, a few favorites I haven’t talked about and my Sleek Storm palette had been neglected in favor of MUA palettes recently:

2013-01-27 11.55.02Face:

Mix of Rimmel 25 Hour Lasting Finish (will be reviewing this, BB creams were giving me shiny face by the end of the day absolutely love this more mattifying foundation) and 17 BB Cream

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder-Still a firm favorite!

MUA Mosaic Bronzer Shade 1-No shimmer so great for contouring.

17 Blusher China Pink-Picked this up after seeing Lisa Eldridge use it in her Audrey Hepburn tutorial, great universal colour that you can be quite heavy-handed with.

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer-What else is there to say about this cult favorite?

Revlone Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey-Perfect everyday colour!

2013-01-26 19.40.08

MUA Professional Eye Primer

Sleek Storm I-Divine-light Brown in crease, Gold over the lid and underneath the eye

Barry M Intense Eyeliner

Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Genius-I’ve been using this over the Thick and Fast mascara to keep it from flaking since the mascara isn’t waterproof, works wonders!

And there you have it!

How are your pool skills?   English, American, or is it Snooker all the way?

How Much Is My Face Worth?

A little late to the party on this tag, but if you hadn’t come to the conclusion yet, that’s just how it is around here.  I’ve been meaning to do this tag for a while just because I am curious as to how much all my slap adds up to.  I’m not expecting a huge figure, I am conservative in what I spend and tend to go for budget brands.  So without further ado, here is the face:

And the products:

17 BB Cream £6.99

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer £4.19

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder £3.99

MUA Professional Eye Primer £2.50

MUA Clear Mascara £1.00

MUA Undressed Palette £4.00 (on sale for £3 on the MUA site at the moment!)

Barry M Intense Eyeliner £3.99

Rimmel Max Volume Lash Flash £6.99

MUA Mosaic Bronzer £2.50

17 Blusher in China Pink £3.49

Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick Beige Rose £7.19

And the grand total comes to:

Which is actually a bit higher than I was expecting, but when I think of how long this makeup will last/how long it has lasted, I am pretty happy with that figure.

Have you totaled up your daily look yet?  Do you think it will be higher or lower than my “face total”?

What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag?

As some of you may or may not know, I have just returned from a “glamping” holiday in Cornwall for my birthday.  You can read about it here on my lifestyle blog if you are curious as to what glamping entails, we had an amazing time!  Anyway, this is what I brought with me makeup wise.  It is quite minimal, but what I deemed necessary for the type of holiday I was on (don’t really need to get too tarted up for exploring the beaches or having dinner in a pub).

The makeup bag itself is super old and I bought it from ELF years ago, I had a look and they don’t even offer the make anymore (the zip is a bit corroded, really need to look into getting a new one!).

Face Products:

17 BB Cream-Love this BB cream and it contains SPF so perfect for being outdoors!

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer-Everyone’s holy grail concealer, worked a treat for covering up those dark circles after nights of drinking too much wine while stargazing.

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder-My favorite face powder, great for setting makeup and keeping your skin matte.

MUA Mosaic Bronzer-This bronzer is lovely and can also be used as a blush, great versatile product to take along.

Eye Products:

MUA Professional Eye Primer-Great budget eye primer, not really necessary for camping, but it’s small so I took it along!

MUA Clear Mascara-Another great cheap product to keep my unruly brows in place.

Rimmel Max Volume Lash Flash Mascara-My mascara of choice at the moment, doesn’t give spider lashes.

MUA Undressed Palette-I love this palette and use it almost every day, a palette is great for travel because you can create many looks without fiddling around with individual shadows.  This also doubles up as brow powder as well as one of the matte browns match my eyebrows.

Lip Products:

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lipstain Rendezvous-My new favorite lip product/shade.

Burberry Beauty Lipmist-This was a sample from a Glossybox and I brought it in case I wanted a bit more muted shade.

Eyelash Curler

ELF Blending Brush-Great versatile brush for applying eyeshadow, works for covering lid, applying in crease, browbone, and blending out.

ELF Stippling Brush-I used this for my bronzer.

ELF Kabuki Brush-I use this to apply powder and blend out makeup.

I hope that was helpful, my makeup case is rather small and I still managed to fit everything I need to “do my face” with room to spare.

What products do you bring for short holidays?

FOTD: Gold and Blue

This look was somewhat inspired by Tanya Burr’s “What Makeup I’m Wearing to the Olympics” video.  In this video she paired MAC’s Woodwinked with a bright aqua eyeliner.  I really liked how this combo worked and I had a Midnight Blue Eyeko Skinny Liner hanging around from a Glossybox that wasn’t getting much use.  I’m much more in the black eyeliner at all times camp to be perfectly honest.  But I decided to give it a go and I’m really happy with the results.

Here’s what’s on my face:

L’Oreal Revitalift BB Cream

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Berry

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in Light

MUA Professional Eye Primer

MUA Clear Mascara

MUA Undressed Palette: Shade 6 all over lid, Shade 3 blended into crease

Rimmel Max Volume Lash Flash

Jelly Pong Pong Lip Frosting (from last month’s Glossybox)

And there you have it!  Do you like colored eyeliners?  Whats your favorite way to wear them?
